Volume Five Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Volume Five, Glen Harrell, Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout
Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe
yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Answer: We are a contemporary bluegrass band that
tries to create our own music and style for bluegrass.  I would say ours is bluegrass music refined
with an edge.

Lamitschka:  What is your latest CD and how’s it
doing?

Answer:  Our latest cd is called „ For Those Who Care
To Listen.“ It has done really well so
far. We have had two number one songs
from this cd so far for our first two singles we have released

Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the
CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

Answer:  Yes. I chose the title as a way to thank all of our fans that have supported
us over the years, requested our music to radio and for coming out and
following live shows to see us.

Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not,
how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Answer:   Many
of the songs we record come from within the band but we always reach out to the
very best songwriters we know to send us songs to consider recording.

Lamitschka:  What kind of songs do you like to record
the most?

Answer: We love to record songs that tell stories or
have a very unique melody.

Lamitschka:  What is your favorite song among all the
songs you have recorded and what’s the story behind it?

Answer: My favorite song that we have recorded would
be Lonely Wind.“ This song was written by a former band member Jeff Partin and
his wife Kelley Partin. It tells a very
interesting story from the perspective of an old empty house. I loved it the first time I heard it and just
fell in love with the melody.

Lamitschka:  How much creative control do you have
over your music?

Answer:  We have all creative control. We usually arrange and pick all our songs we
record and much of our recording and mixing we do ourselves.

Lamitschka:  If you had the chance to change
something about the music industry, what would it be?

Answer:  Well I have always loved the old bluegrass
songs, however I wish many more bands and artists would record more original
music and record it with more of an original take as to what they hear.. Not that I don’t love the old music, because
I do. I just think many of these songs
have been recorded over and over and there are only so many ways you can hear
them and perform them. I wish everyone could record and create new music that
someone else will want to play and record there own version of for the next 50
years like everyone has done from the pioneers in bluegrass like Bill Monroe,
Flatt and Scruggs, Jimmy Martin and the Stanley Brothers. Those old songs are timeless and I would just
love to hear more timeless original music again.

Lamitschka:  As an artist, you so many tasks such as
recording, touring, interviews. What do you like best, what’s your favorite
activity?

Answer:  My favorite part is creating and recording
new music with the guys in the band. I
do however love the live shows but at times they are very tiring because of the
travel time to and from shows.

Lamitschka:  What drives you?

Answer:  For me it’s simple. The music and the people.

Lamitschka:  What has been your greatest challenge in
music business?

Answer: Making everything work when it seems nothing is
working.

Lamitschka:  Any thoughts of retirement ahead?

Answer:  No until I feel as if I don’t have the
passion to keep creating new music or the traveling gets to rough.

Lamitschka:  Who is your biggest critic, yourself or
others?

Answer:   Myself for sure.

Lamitschka:  When you get time off, how do you like
to relax?

Answer:  Spending quality time with my family. They mean everything to me.

Lamitschka:  Is there anything in your life that you
would change if you could?

Answer: Yes, I would love to be a better influence to
everyone I have met.

Lamitschka:  Many music fans today get their
information about artists online. Do you have your own website and what will
fans find there?

Answer:  www.volumefivebg.com. You can find information such as our tour
schedule, information about the band,
our latest music and an online store to buy merchandise.
