Steve Kolander – This Old Barn

Single Review: Steve Kolander – This Old Barn

by Ritchie Ritchison for Country Music News International

Steve Kolander (born November 15, 1961, in Lake Charles, Louisiana) is an American country music artist. He debuted in 1994 with the release of his self-titled album on River North Records. It produced two singles on the Hot Country Songs charts. A second album for River North, Pieces of a Puzzle, was released in 1996, followed by the independently released Light to Dark in 2007.

Steve Kolander’s new single “This Old Barn” is one more good example of how hard it is to classify Steve’s music. Early in his career he had a Rockabilly/Pop sound to his Country and later it was a Pop/Singer-Songwriter kind of feel. With this song Steve goes back to his Texas roots and channels a little George Strait in this ballad that sums up life and love in the memories of an old barn.

Steve’s writing has grown richer and his voice has grown even more expressive and with the help of some great harmony vocals by Tecia McKenna delivers a sparkling performance on one of the best singles I have heard this year. Everything from production to writing, arranging, performance and recording make this  the best in a long line of great singles from Steve Kolander to date.
