Steve Hewitt Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be
hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself
and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Answer: Well to put it in a nutshell my specific genre would probably come under Americana, Acoustic folk rock.My songs are very heartfelt,
mostly about real life situations, the dramas of every day,the state of the world, the condition of the heart and relationships. My aim is to write songs that become bigger than just words and music to those that want to listen.

Lamitschka:  How was the last year for you? What were your highlights?

Answer: The last year was busy, having a family to support and working
hard to make it in the Music business leaves you with little time to
relax, or get away – so you’ve got to make time. But I’m thankful to
have a very supportive wife behind me pushing me on.My highlight of the year was finally getting my new album finished.

Lamitschka:  What is your latest CD and how’s it doing?

Answer: My latest album which is my debut album – Bigger Than Words. 10
track album. I’m very proud of it, my best work to date.Still
in the early stages of promotion, it’s getting a lot of radio play and
now the reviews are coming in. Looking for what comes next.

Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

Answer: The title came out of the song Healing & Hurt which I wrote about my better half (wife). It seemed to fit perfectly for me because every song on the album stem
from true stories. True feelings, realising stuff for the first time, so
it made sense to call it that.

Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Answer: Yes I write every song!

Lamitschka:  Please tell us about the songs on your album (influences, etc).

Answer: I am terrified of being predictable so I worked very hard on
every song to make them not only sound different but feel different too. But at the same time I have no real control over what comes out lol.On this album You can hear – folk, Country, alternative, pop, Americana. A little bit of everything, like a buffet!

Lamitschka:  Your current single is being played by radio. What do you
feel is special about this song that makes people want to hear it?

Answer: Well the song Healing & Hurt is what I call my little
masterpiece. It has great response when I play it live, so all I can ask
for is that people love it haha

Lamitschka:  You did a duet with Reed Brothers & Orfila. How did that happen to come about?

Answer: On this album I’ve collaborated with the Reed Brothers based in
Texas San Antonio (USA), and Orfila a country trio based in
Folkestone/Kent in England.I
went on tour in 2016 as a support for the Reed Brothers, and on the
flight over I wrote a country song dedicated to my Grandparents called
‘Without You’ and we played it live together at the Rebecca Creek
whiskey distillery and everybody loved it, so I decided to ask them to
sing and play lead guitar on the track!

Orfila sang backing vocals on my track ‘Pieces’.I played this track live at a gig in Maidstone where Orfila was playing
as well and after I played my set Abi from Orfila said how much she
loved the song so I decided to ask them to do backing vocals when it was
time to record and They said yes obviously lol

Lamitschka:  What is your favorite song among all the songs you have recorded and what’s the story behind it?

Answer: Well I think one of the keys to writing a successful album is
that you’ve got to love the songs, I’m proud of everyone of them but the
one that stands out for me is Healing & Hurt. I actually can’t
believe that I’ve written something that good. I’m super proud of it.

Lamitschka:  How much creative control do you have over your music?

Answer: All of the control lol

Lamitschka:  Who inspires you musically and how deep do your musical roots run?

Answer: David Gray, Bob Dylan, Fink, Buddy holly, Hank Williams, The Smiths, The Bee Gees. The list goes on and on.I do love a good hook line and these artists seem to give it to me haha

Lamitschka:  As an artist, you so many tasks such as recording, touring,
interviews. What do you like best, what’s your favorite activity?

Answer: My favourite part is finishing a song haha The sense of euphoria
I get when I’ve completed a song that I’ve been working on for a long
time maybe the happiest I get because it’s only then I can switch off
and relax for a couple of days.I
find that being a singer songwriter is a blessing and a curse; a
blessing when you’ve achieved and a curse when you’ve got the puzzle but
not having a clue how put it all together

Lamitschka:  What inspired you to become an artist?

Answer: Buddy Holly when I was 14yrs old

Answer: Sleep lol
