Daryl Mosley releases 3rd album “Life Well Lived”
Not just an album title; it’s his life goal
By Preshias Harris for Country Music News International Magazine
Daryl Mosley has been described as “a songwriter’s songwriter.” That’s a phrase that demonstrates the respect that Mosley has earned over more than three decades honing his craft.
A Who’s Who of artists have recorded songs he has penned, including Lynn Anderson, Bobby Osborne, Les Butler, the Booth Brothers, and The Grascals among many others. Mosley has been recognized three times as Songwriter of the Year along with three Song of the Year Awards and ten Number One hits.
Mosley has built an ever-growing following as a performer too, and his warm, understated delivery is perhaps the best way to enjoy the songs he has written, receiving critical acclaim as lead vocalist in the ‘90s with the Bluegrass group New Tradition and later with the multi-awarded band, The Farm Hands. In 2020, he released his first solo project, titled The Secret of Life, that peaked at No. 1 on the Roots Music Report. This was followed by the album Small Town Dreamer that included the No. 1 single “Transistor Radio” and two other Top Five tracks. (Listen to both albums here: https://darylmosley.com/music.)
In July 2023, Mosley released his third (and arguably his best) album titled A Life Well Lived. The project includes the hit single “Mayberry State of Mind” as well as the No. 1 Gospel song “Big God” featuring Southern Gospel’s Ronnie Booth. A Life Well Lived – like Mosley’s two previous solo projects – was recorded for Pinecastle Records and produced by Mosley and Grascals’ mando player Danny Roberts. In celebration of his new release, Daryl Mosley agreed to submit to a Preshias 12-Pack! Here are his responses…
[1] Preshias: If a movie were made about your life what would it be called?
Daryl: “A Life Well Lived.” It’s not just the title of my new album, it’s really a life goal!
[2] Preshias: If you were to be left on a deserted island for one year and you could pick three albums to be there with you and couldn’t pick any of your own, what would you pick?
Daryl: “Songs for Swinging Lovers” from Frank Sinatra, “One Good Well” from Don Williams, and “Greatest Hits” from The Eagles.
[3] Preshias: Which song or album are you listening to the most right now?
Daryl: “Human” by Cody Johnson, “The Very Thought of You” from Nat King Cole and “He Reminds Me” from Tim Menzies.
[4] Preshias: Please finish the sentence: I would love to have been there in musical history when…..?
Daryl: Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr were performing at the Sands in Las Vegas.
[5] Preshias: Your house is on fire – all your family, children and pets are saved. By the trick of fate you are told you can run in and get one item to carry out, what will you save from the flames?
Daryl: My mom’s old Gibson guitar.
[6] Preshias: If you could have dinner with George Washington or George Strait, which one would you choose and why?
Daryl: George Strait. I’d love to ask him about keeping a band and a marriage/family together for all of these years while maintaining a demanding career.
[7] Preshias: Which one of superman’s powers would you like to have?
Daryl: I think flying. I could get to road dates a little quicker and it would allow me a little more home/family time.
[8] Preshias: If you could record or perform a song with another artist or group, (dead or alive) who would that “dream duet” be?
Daryl: Rosemary Clooney and/or Bing Crosby.
[9] Preshias: If you could be given credit for writing one song that has already been written, what would be your song?
Daryl: “White Christmas” – because it’s found its way into just about everyone’s life.
[10] Preshias: What is your “Ick” food and what is your ‘yum’ food?
Daryl: Don’t like green peas! LOVE me some cornbread!
[11] Preshias: If you had a $10,000 gift card, where would you go to spend it?
Daryl: I’d probably just spend it on family but I would really enjoy buying another guitar. Can you really have too many?
[12] Preshias: If you could get a phone call from one person in the world right now (living or deceased) whom would you like to hear from?
Daryl: My dad, for sure. Miss him every day.
