Curly Seckler celebrated his 95th birthday

Long
time bluegrasser, Curly Seckler, celebrated his 95th birthday on
December 25th.  He was born in North Carolina in 1919.  He began his
musical career in 1935 in a band with his brothers Marvin on guitar,
George on fiddle, Lucky on guitar, and Curly on the banjo.  They were
called the “Yodeling Rangers.”  Curly moved on to play for Charlie
Monroe (Bill Monroe’s brother), on the WWVA Jamboree in Wheeling, W.
Virginia.  Later he worked with Jim & Jesse McReynolds, and in 1949
joined Flatt & Scruggs.  He was inducted into the International
Bluegrass Music Association Hall of Fame in 2004.  He was inducted into
the North Carolina Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Bill Monroe Bluegrass
Hall of Fame in 2011.  He now lives with is wife Eloise in an assisted
living facility.
