From the opening notes of “Midnight 402” to the closing chord of “Leaving Louisville”
Amanda Cook’s contemporary bluegrass offering “Deep Water” is a musical delight.
The picking is crisp, clean and beautifully recorded at Mountain Fever Studios in Willis,
Virginia. The vocals are bright and punchy and sit perfectly atop the great tracks played
by Amanda Cook on Vocals, Carolyne VanLierop on Banjo and Harmony Vocals, Scotty
French on Guitar and Harmony Vocals George Mason on Fiddle, Aaron Ramsey on
Mandolin, and Jeff Partin on Bass, Dobro and Harmony Vocals on “Magnolia Wind”.
The songwriting is fresh coming from a variety of sources including Thomm Jutz, Guy
Clark, Ronnie Bowman and Cook herself and the tracks are a good balance of new and
traditional sounding bluegrass.

Amanda Cook’s talent shines brightest on the co-written title cut with VanLierop and the
showcase cut on the disc “Liar’s Moon” written by Jerry Salley and Scott Southworth.
Infusing the songs with effortless power and emotion Amanda Cook’s CD “Deep Water”
is a must have for bluegrass fans and acoustic country fans alike.

I give it a 5 out of 5 stars.
