Being in Florida sometimes you feel like you
have come to the place where old northerners have come to die. Today, was no
different. I was biking home on a path, and decided to stop at a lake and relax.
I put the kickstand down, put my hands on the fence overlooking the water, took
a deep breath, and then the serenity was shattered by an 80 something retiree
barreling down the path right toward me in his golf cart. It’s just been one of
those weeks; the kind with retirees trying to push the pedal to the metal in golf
carts, and the older ones doing the same thing with electric wheelchairs.
On
days like this I dread putting the headphones on and clicking play on an album
I know nothing about. But by doing so, maybe this time I’ve changed my luck, my
mood, and my outlook on life. Boy Like
You is the song that is getting a great deal of radio play and I can
understand why. It’s fast paced, upbeat, and contains lyrical prose. I see this
song making its way onto country, pop, and even rock & roll charts.
All I Need keeps it going. The hard
strumming almost punk rock sound it has is almost never heard in the country
music scene. This album has a very unique sound with true country lyrics. Whisper My Name slows it down a bit, yet
keeps the feeling.
the
true country really pours through. The electric picking reminds me of a country
fair, but at this fair the line goes crazy as the music plays. This ain’t no
normal country fair, and it’s more like line running just trying to keep up.
Side of Dirt and Common Woman seem
to be the different worlds meeting. There is the young, fairly fresh to the
music scene and the tried and true musician. By that, I mean you have Jaymie
Jones who has been known in the Nashville Music Industry for decades and now
teamed up with her daughter Kelli there is the perfect mix of polished and new.
I don’t foresee one speeding around the grocery store parking lot and the other
driving the hotrod golf cart lot anytime soon.
album was produced by Grammy Winning Don Gehman who is well known for his work
with John Mellencamp, Hootie and the Blowfish, and Tracy Chapman just to name a
few. This is a great duo and I can only expect that more incredible albums will
be coming from them.
