HOMER BAILES age
90, the last of the famous Bailes Brothers passed away. In 1944 the
Bailes Brothers had the distinction of being the first act from West
Virginia to become regulars on the Grand Ole Opry. Homer was the last
living Bailes Brothers who we inducted several years ago into America’s
Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame. He played fiddle in the group and
in 1946 they moved to Louisiana, and along with Hank Williams Sr.,
became performers on the Louisiana Hayride. A good friend of the Bailes
Brothers, Dave Wilburn, also from West Virginia, said “The Bailes
Brothers kept good company with other West Virginia artists who also
went to the Grand Ole Opry: Red Sovine, Molly O’Day, Little Jimmy
Dickens, and many more.
