Allen, a veteran of the Viet Nam
war, emphasized how important it is that we show our fighting men and women
that we support them 100%. He said
“that’s the one thing that’s so easily forgotten
when you’re in a war zone and it’s the one belief that can keep our soldiers
going when it’s so hard to focus on hope.”

Allen made notice of a soldier in
the audience, who was in a wheelchair, and asked that he be brought up on stage
to join him during the show. The soldier, twenty two year old Jason Green,
who served his country in the Iraq war, was paralyzed from the waist down and
will never walk again, but Jason was just so happy to be home and grateful to
be alive. They laughed and joked together, like only two veterans
can. At the closing of the show Allen said, “You know folks,
what sets America apart from the rest of the world,
is our great compassion and love for one another. That’s what it’s all about,
people helping people, caring for their fellow man.” It was a very
emotional ending to a great concert, when the
entire audience stood and joined Allen in singing “God Bless America”.
