Zara Lindeman gets Hung Up On You with her new single

60’s Motown takes a visit to Australian country for a romp in a soul infused song, Hung Up On You by Zara Lindeman. An Eddie Willis style guitar intros this lively tune while Lindeman sings against the electric chords and bemoans picking up the phone to take a call she might regret. She can’t help but take the call and immediately a rush of memories floods her mind, blurring the line between what’s over and what still lingers.
Lindeman had this to offer, “This song is about that moment when you answer a call you know you’ll regret later. It’s raw, honest and about the tug-of-war between heart and head – something I think anyone who’s struggled to let go, can relate to.” The arrangement has a bubbling, simmering quality, underpinned by a spirited loungey sounding organ on the verse waiting for Brad Bergen on the drums to proceed to the second verse. “Boy how’d you know, I’d be standing here alone,” sets the tone for Zara to sell “I wish I’d hung up on you,” a vocal line she repeats to great effect. Lindeman lives somewhere between vintage R&B and modern country, giving this tune a unique, refreshing sound. Its playful chord progression and distinctive instrumentation harkens back to a desirable period in time, not heard enough today.
Hung Up On You was written by Zara with Zech Walters and Eloise Rayner and was produced by Simon Johnson. Johnson also played the bass, Brad Bergen on drums and acoustic guitar, Rod Motbey on electric guitar and Liam Kennedy-Clark on keys.
Raised on a farm in Deniliquin, New South Wales, Zara Lindeman grew up with dust on her boots, horses at her side, and a love for songwriting shaped by the rhythm of regional life. A CMAA Academy graduate, she’s performed at the Deniliquin Ute Muster, Tamworth Country Music Festival, Man from Snowy River Bush Festival and toured regional NSW with The Rivers Tour. Zara’s music blends heartfelt storytelling with vibrant, contemporary country and her new single Hung Up On You reveals a soulful, fresh dimension. With her debut EP on the way, Zara continues to pour her country spirit into every track, connecting with audiences through honest, real and memorable songs.
Hung Up On You, released by RTC Records is available on October 30th.
