Turning Ground Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Answer:  We are traditional but have a contemporary flare. Comments we get from many people are they really never liked Bluegrass, but like our style. Our music and lyrics being 90% original sets us apart from many other groups.

Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Answer:  Yes Nathan Arnett writes a large part of everything we do. We’ve produced 4 cd projects that contains a plethora of his songwriting talent.

Lamitschka:  Your current single is being played by radio. What do you feel is special about this song that makes people want to hear it?

Answer:  The single Old Country Store written by Nathan, depicts life as it is in this current day and time. Many of the old stores we remember from childhood are now passed away. Many memories are held in those four walls. Many people that we’ve known from Eastern Kentucky depended on such stores for their daily lives needs. These businesses have been replaced by larger stores..

Lamitschka:  Who inspires you musically and how deep do your musical roots run?

Answer: As a group we all can agree upon many artists. For example the lates Ernie Thacker, Ralph Stanley, Dave Evans.

Lamitschka:  What was your big break that got you into the music business?

Answer:  We have been blessed during these last 6 years to have been able to perform at many of the larger, well known Bluegrass festivals. This allows for a large diversified group of fans to appreciate what we have to give.

Lamitschka:  What inspired you to become a songwriter?

Answer:  Nathan says, “ The love and compassion for the music. Without lyrics music is just an instrumental. I feel like the lyrics, have faded away over the years, pulling away from storytelling that people can relate to in their daily lives.

Lamitschka:  What’s unique about you that will differentiate you from other artists?

Answer:  The group has always taken pride in our original material, that sets up apart from anyone. Fans hearing a song for the first time and connecting with it, is truly a unique feeling.

Lamitschka:  What has been your greatest challenge in music business?

Answer: Getting music played. It’s such a proverbial 8-ball to be behind knowing you are putting out good stuff.

Lamitschka:  Is there any place you haven’t played that you would like to?

Answer:  Sure we have to say Europe!!! Of course the Grand Ole Opry is in our sights!!!! Our Northern neighbors Canada. There’s several other states and countries we’d like to flex our music muscles in lol !!

Lamitschka:  What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?

Answer:  Energy, compassion and always allowing our fans to be number 1. Without these people attending shows it’s just empty chairs. Each member puts 110% in each performance for the audience.

Lamitschka:  What message would you like to send your European fans?

Answer:  Hope to see you soon. If you like our music please let us know. We truly appreciate any and all support outside the US. It’s been an honor to be able to share just a tidbit of information on our band Turning Ground. Thank you and God bless.
