Stephen Bennett Let Me Show My Love

Let Me Show My Love – a brand new single from Stephen Bennett

By Alan Shipston for Country Music News International Magazine

Let Me Show My Love is the tender story about a relationship that has come to an end and a man who can’t come to terms with the loss.  A time worn country theme as old as the genre itself, except Stephen Bennett chooses a slightly different path on this composition. From the rising cymbal in the intro, Bennett uses a dramatic, almost Broadway–like country arrangement to tell the sad tale as he pleads for the return of his love.  “I was sure you were the one, and our love was true, maybe I was naïve and taken for a fool,” sings Bennett as the side stick patiently keeps time.  Sparkling piano and solid bass hold down the rhythm section while a jangling electric guitar plays the fills in the second verse underneath a somber fiddle line.

By the time the channel hits, Bennett sings, “Now I’m crying aware that I’m dying, another lies where I laid’” as he begs for forgiveness and the chance to “Let me show my love for you.”   The production has an uplifting atmosphere and the tracks are exhilarating in the right spots as the rise and fall of the music matches the demeanor of Stephen’s clear and convincing vocal.  Touches of mandolin and steel guitar artfully paint the backdrop to this mid tempo ballad.

Stephen Bennett is a 25 year old singer/songwriter from Ardara Country, Donegal.  He’s been writing songs since he was a teenager and gigging around Donegal for the past 6 years.  In 2017 Stephen was chosen as runner-up in a talent competition judged by Louis Walsh which spurred him on to keep writing and singing.  This was followed a few months later by the release of his debut self-penned single “Traffic Jam” which went to No. 1 in the iTunes singer-songwriter charts in Ireland.

Since then he has released several more of his own original songs as well as cover material.  Stephen is now recognized as an up and coming star in the Irish country music scene and is currently writing numbers including his very successful self penned releases, Your Love Came My Way, Meet Me Tonight  and Broken Bottles, which are available on all music platforms.  Let Me Show My Love adds a maturity to Bennett’s catalogue and a welcome addition to country music.
