Spotlight on Lucy Angel

Introduction
The group first came to my attention in October 2010 after hearing their track ‘Only Woman Left’. This was included on Hot Disc #142 (Rush Released) the promotional compilations distributed to the country music media in the UK and worldwide. This fabulous song sadly peaked at # 30 on the Hot Disc Chart but thankfully was making waves across the pond with the radio networks. Much to my delight on 25 April 2011 they were featured on Inside Music Row shown on Showcase TV (Sky Channel 201 and Freesat 403) when the lovely Kelly Lynn hooked up with them.
So who is Lucy Angel?
They are a female trio who have been together for a very long time and will be for some considerable period to come because they comprise of the “Anderton clan”, who are mother Kate Anderton and her two daughters Lindsay and Emily.
Kate got into music when she met her husband in college and he entered her for the Wrangler Country Showdown which she duly won. This was a live-broadcast country music talent search show which preceded programmes like American Idol by some 20 years.
Kate fell for country music listening to Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. She subsequently moved to Nashville and has appeared at The Grand Ole Opry in what she describes as “the bad hair era” of the 80’s.
Lindsay first performed at the tender age of 4 years old. When she reached 12 she sang professionally with her mum in another trio then after a move from Arizona to Nashville they formed a duo (see pic). Her introduction to country music was listening to the likes of Ronnie Milsap on Lake Powell trips when cruising down the channel.
When younger sister Emily moved to Music City she didn’t want to sing but would watch mum and older sister perform – “So much in life is about timing and 6 years ago the timing was right and we became a trio” she says. The first show LUCY ANGEL performed in this format was as opening act for Neal McCoy.
The beauty of siblings and family members singing together is of course the unique close harmonies they create and it was the first single which has opened doors – According to Kate. “When we heard it, the oohs were definitely the selling point, and of course, the three part harmony”.
Since October 2010 they have been on radio promotional tours visiting many States, meeting friends and fans and geared up to do some band shows. They have also turned their attention to the Internet, posting up weekly episodes on YouTube known as “Lucy Angel on Safari”. These have been mainly fun adventures but most recently serious ones. Whilst on the road with promotion they took some time out to pay a visit through the tornado ravaged town of Cullman in Alabama. This was to help out a close family friend whose home was destroyed in the disaster, in what was the worst tornado to strike since 1925 – Lucy Angel ‘Color Love Blue’ (Cullman Tornado Relief) Video. They were overcome by the devastating scenes and presented gas cards to many of the now homeless neighbours.
Recognizing the difficult times families are facing with the recession they are also associated with The Second Harvest which provides many meals for children over the weekends and summer breaks. For those less fortunate Lucy Angel has been collecting food at their shows (hopefully not thrown at them! LOL)
With their attractive looks it’s of no surprise the trio have been turning heads and catching the attention of TV executives in Hollywood. After meetings “the sassy kindred spirits” have been exploring the idea with cable networks of launching a Lucy Angel reality TV show!
Apart from extensive tours in America they have been to Japan and Switzerland for the International Country Festival in Albisgütli, Zurich – Watch on Youtube . They became “China dolls” with 2 trips to Beijing for The International Country Music Week in 2009 – See Myspace Photo and then were honoured as the first Western /American act to sing at the Great Hall of the People in Tiananmen Square – See Photo
The new Lucy Angel single, ‘Serious is currently at country radio. To date it has peaked at # 40 on the Music Row Country Breakout Chart . They have some exclusive live performances due at Tootsies Orchid Lounge (June 8 -11, 2011) in Nashville during the CMA Fanfest and then go out on a national tour – check out the website for details.
