A 30-minute weekly show produced by Meredith Video Studios, “Next Great Family Band,” premiered
February 17 on COZI TV, a network developed by NBCUniversal. The new
series features 15 family bands from across the country, each hoping to
follow the footsteps of The Jackson 5, The Jonas Brothers, Hanson and iconic family band, The Osmonds.
A country acoustic duo, which formed in July of 2010, Sibling Rivalry
has been honing their art for the better part of nine years enhancing
their skills on a variety of instruments and following the direction of
local music mentors including instrument instruction from Arbor Music; songwriting, production and studio work with Marcus Eldridge; Talent Coach Tom McKinney; songwriter Kyle Hutton; Music Director Nekki Bay; and A&R representative Jake McKim. As the lead singer, Olivia commands the stage with a unique style and plays guitar and piano; Mitchell
brings out the full sound by providing harmony vocals and playing
guitar, fiddle, mandolin and piano, the latter two of which he is
self-taught. Sibling Rivalry pens their own songs and has worked with such Nashville writers as Clay Mills, Greg Barnhill, Rachel Thibodeau, Shane Stevens and more.
By being chosen to appear on “Next Great Family Band,” Olivia and Mitchell feel that their hard work is finally paying off.
“I am really excited the producers think we have the talent to compete on the show,” commented Olivia. “Being a part of it gets our name and music out to a wider audience than we could have ever done on our own.”
Three music industry experts will critique and mentor the bands. This panel includes Kimberly Locke, an American Idol alum with a series of number one A/C hits; Phoenix Stone, a former Backstreet Boy and up-and-coming country artist; and drummer Samantha Maloney, who has played for bands such as Mötley Crüeand Hole.
“It is the family dynamics that makes ‘Next Great Family Band’ very unique,” said Seth Feldman, the show’s creator and producer from Meredith Video Studios. “In
addition to seeing these bands rock out on stage, fans will get to know
band members during family meals, homework sessions and carpool time.”
Sibling Rivalry’s appearance on the March 3 episode will feature footage from their everyday lives at home as well as a tune from a show at Dosey Doe – The Big Barn. Intrigued by Olivia‘s haunting and poignant song about bullying, written when she was 13, the duo will debut “No Medicine Can Heal” to the viewing audience. The episode will be available online at www.NextGreatFamilyBand.com within 3-5 days of its original air date.

Based on viewer interaction, the industry experts will each choose a
band to mentor the second half of the season and the final three bands
will be featured in a grand finale performance.
