Scotty McCreery took one for the team, and it could have cost him his
music career. He got hit in the throat by a ground ball while he was
pitching a game for Garner High School. The News & Observer of
Raleigh, North Carolina, reports that it happened in the third inning
when a one-hopper back to the mound hit McCreery in the throat. He
retrieved the ball, threw out the batter and stayed in the game for
another inning. McCreery’s publicist says he is OK. To add insult to
injury, his team lost. While he was in, McCreery struck out six and
allowed seven hits, including a home run. He left with a 2-1 lead, but
the other team rallied for a 3-2 victory. McCreery is up for
breakthrough video of the year at the CMT Music Awards for “The Trouble
With Girls.”
