Sarah Lawton Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:
How was the last year for you? What were your highlights?

Answer:  This
last year has been amazing, full of personal growth and career opportunities. I
really started to see the rewards of my hard work pay off. My highlights are
definitely getting to experience CMA fest as a new artist for the first time,
meeting fans, playing the wildhorse saloon and promoting my EP.

Lamitschka:
What is your latest CD and how’s it doing?

Answer
:  My latest CD is “Sticks and Stones”.
It’s been doing really well and I now get a lot of requests at my shows for
songs from this EP, which is great. My favorite song to perform is “cheating on
me” and I recently filmed a music video for this song which will be out in
October. I’m really proud of this CD and love hearing from my fans about which
is their favorite song and what they like about it.

Lamitschka:
How did you choose the title for the CD?  Is there a story behind the
name?

Answer:  The
title from the CD was named after the first single release “Sticks and Stones”.
This song was about a particular experience I had where a relationship broke
down and there was a lot of bad feeling and manipulation over me. This song is
about rising above any negativity and moving forward through any troubles
thrown your way from the other person. The message is to empower girls and make
them realize they deserve the best from someone and not to put up with any
less.

Lamitschka:
Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs
for your CD?

Answer:  Yes
I do write the songs myself and I also work with a lot of great songwriters in
Nashville. I’ve learned so much from getting to work with such creative and
talented musicians since moving here and I feel very blessed to be surrounded
by that each day.

Lamitschka:
Please tell us about the songs on your album (influences, etc).

Answer:  The
songs are all either about my own personal experience or about someone close to
me. They are always about empowering girls and making them realize their worth.
I’ve been through a few bad relationships and life experiences that have helped
me grow and become stronger and I try to use that in a positive way to share
and help any other girls going through the same thing. “Cheating on me” is
particularly close to my heart as the title suggests its about being cheated on
but its actually about cheating on yourself by putting up with less than what
you deserve from someone.

Lamitschka:
What is the difference between your last CD and your current one?

Answer:  I
feel my current CD really shows the last 4 years of hard work here in Nashville
and showcases some of my best written work to date. I think it shows how much I
have grown not only as a songwriter but as an artist too.

Lamitschka:
What will your next single be?

Answer:  My
next single will be “Cheating on Me” which will be released in October.

Lamitschka:
What kind of songs do you like to record the most?

Answer:  I
love ballads! I really love recording songs with emotion, feeling and a story
behind them. I’m all about the deeper message and how a song can make someone
feel just from the emotion in the singers voice.

Lamitschka:
How much creative control do you have over your music?

Answer:  I
like to have all of the creative control over my music. If it’s not true to
myself and recording songs that resonate with me, then I cant do it. I have to
be able to relate to the song and know there a message in there that needs
someone to hear it. Then its my job to get that message out there and hope that
my fans can relate to it also and feel something from the song.

Lamitschka:
Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your
music?

Answer:  Yes
I have had girls contact me and tell me how a particular song of mine has
helped them through a bad break up or how when they see my perform they feel
inspired to go out and achieve their dreams too. This really is the best
feeling in the world. To know that the music you created has impacted someone,
and changed that persons life for the better. It doesn’t get much better.
