ROYAL WADE KIMES TAKES HIS MUSIC A MILE HIGH
Award-winning singer/songwriter Royal Wade Kimes is soaring a mile high.
Some recording artists seem to have a destiny with certain words. The legendary Eddy Arnold used the word “world” in his hits “Make The World Go Away,” “What’s He Doing In My World” and “Turn The World Around The Other Way.” For Royal Wade—who previously released his acclaimed Hats Off – A Tribute to Eddy Arnold CD—the magic happens when he uses “miles” or “mile” in a song title.
Royal Wade, proclaimed the Best Living Western Solo Musician by True West magazine in December 2010, just released his latest single “500 Miles Away From Home.” The 1963 Bobby Bare classic is the second single from Crossing The Roads, Royal Wade’s tenth album.
Before Royal Wade’s “500 Miles Away From Home”—which sits at No.18 on the charts in Europe and boasts one of the hottest videos going on You Tube—there was the Arkansas native’s hit “There Ain’t Enough Miles,” which won the Video of the Year award from the Academy of Western Music.
And now Royal Wade’s hit “Mile High Honey,” which charted in Billboard magazine, has become the moniker for a race-winning horse. The lightning-fast mare “Mile High Honey” won at Arapahoe Park in Aurora, Colorado, by half a length at 7 to 1 odds. Although the horse was born and raised in Colorado, it got its name from the song “Mile High Honey,” written by Royal Wade, Larry Crowley and actress Leslie Easterbrook of Police Academy fame.
Often compared to Marty Robbins and Johnny Cash, Royal Wade has performed his unique brand of “cowboy country” music in front of hundreds of thousands of fans in 30 states at fairs, festivals, rodeos, conventions, night clubs, theaters and special venues, including NASCAR events, the historic Grand Ole Opry and Disney World.
In a career spanning 20 years, Royal Wade has covered a lot of lyrical miles in his song titles and actual miles on the road. So, the obvious question is:
How long will it be before the writer of hit songs for himself, Garth Brooks, Trace Adkins and others will pen another “miles” hit?
Answer: Probably not long. Maybe just a few miles down the road.
