NRG Stadium Set to Sizzle: RODEOHOUSTON® Unveils Star-Studded 2026 Lineup
By Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine
Houston’s favorite time of year is just around the corner, and the stakes for the 2026 RODEOHOUSTON® entertainer lineup have never been higher. Running from March 2 through March 22, the upcoming season at NRG Stadium promises a massive mix of global superstars, nostalgic icons returning after decades, and the hottest breakout acts in the industry today.
“We strive to bring Houston the very best in live entertainment, and the 2026 lineup raises that standard once again,” said Chris Boleman, president and CEO of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. “From chart-topping newcomers to artists making their long-awaited return after nearly 20 years, this year’s lineup is truly a reflection of both our Western roots and the vibrant footprint of the Houston community.”
The New Class: Nine Artists Make Their Star Stage Debut
The 2026 roster leans heavily into the “now,” with nine performers stepping onto the iconic rotating stage for the very first time. Leading the pack is Houston’s own flutist and pop powerhouse Lizzo, alongside viral sensation Shaboozey and country music’s newest “It Girl,” Megan Moroney. Other debutants include:
-
Russell Dickerson, who famously revealed his spot in the lineup via a surprise pop-up performance in Times Square on Jan. 7.
-
Creed, the rock giants enjoying a massive resurgence with younger generations.
-
Pepe Aguilar, a titan of regional Mexican music and mariachi.
-
Koe Wetzel, Forrest Frank, and the CMA-winning Red Clay Strays.
Legends and Long-Awaited Homecomings
While the new blood is exciting, the 2026 season also celebrates the return of rodeo royalty. Luke Bryan returns for his 13th appearance, fresh off his 2025 Star Trail of Fame induction, while Tim McGraw is slated for his 11th.
Perhaps most exciting for longtime fans are the artists returning after a 20-year hiatus. Dwight Yoakam and pop idol Kelly Clarkson last graced the star stage in 2004, and the legendary Red Dirt outfit Cross Canadian Ragweed returns for the first time since 2006, riding a wave of reunion nostalgia.
Special Theme Days and Diverse Representations
RODEOHOUSTON continues its commitment to representing the diverse tapestry of Houston. For the third consecutive year, the lineup features two major Latin acts: J Balvin and Pepe Aguilar. Aguilar will headline Go Tejano Day on March 15, performing immediately after the high-energy Go Tejano Mariachi Invitational Championship.
The schedule also includes dedicated appreciation days:
-
Armed Forces Appreciation Day: Rascal Flatts (March 4)
-
Black Heritage Day: Lizzo (March 6)
-
First Responders Appreciation Day: Luke Bryan (March 9)
The Grand Finale: A Concert-Only Spectacle
In a rare move, the final day of the event, Sunday, March 22, will be a concert-only performance. Texas native Cody Johnson will close out the festivities at NRG Stadium. Unlike the other nights, there will be no rodeo competition preceding the music, but the carnival, shopping, and livestock exhibits will remain open to the public. Johnson will be joined by special guests Jon Pardi and Randy Houser for what is expected to be a historic sell-out.
