The Boys Are Back: Rascal Flatts Ignites 2026 With Sold-Out “Life Is A Highway Tour” Opener

By Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine

The green flag has officially waved, and the engine is roaring louder than ever. Country music powerhouses Rascal Flatts kicked off the 2026 leg of their LIFE IS A HIGHWAY TOUR last night in Raleigh, NC, proving that their historic return to the spotlight is far from over.

Performing to a capacity crowd, the “modern country icons” delivered a masterclass in nostalgia and vocal precision. From the moment the lights dimmed, the arena was transformed into a “full-throttle celebration,” with the trio performing two decades of hits that Raleigh Magazine noted still radiate that “signature twang.”

A Night of Anthems and “Refueled” Energy

The setlist was a journey through the soundtrack of the last 25 years. Fans sang along to every syllable of timeless classics like “My Wish,” “I Like The Sound Of That,” “Bless The Broken Road,” and the heart-wrenching “What Hurts The Most.” Of course, the night reached a fever pitch with their high-octane rendition of “Life Is A Highway,” a song that has become synonymous with the band’s enduring legacy.

The tour follows the massive success of their 2025 collaboration album, LIFE IS A HIGHWAY: REFUELED DUETS. The project reimagined their biggest hits with stars like Kelly Clarkson and the Backstreet Boys. Currently, their standout track “I Dare You” featuring the Jonas Brothers is climbing the Country Radio charts, recently breaking into the Top 15.

Meet the Legends: About Rascal Flatts

Since their formation in 2000, Gary LeVox (vocals), Jay DeMarcus (multi-instrumentalist), and Joe Don Rooney (guitar) have been the blueprint for the modern country vocal group. Their list of accolades is staggering:

  • 17 No. 1 Hits

  • Over 23.4 Million Albums Sold

  • 12 Billion Lifetime Streams (4.6 Billion on Spotify alone)

  • 40+ Awards (CMA, ACM, AMA, and more)

  • Grand Ole Opry Members since 2011

After a brief hiatus, the trio emerged with “renewed passion” to celebrate their 25th anniversary. As iHeart succinctly put it after last night’s opener: “The boys are back and better than ever.”
