  OPEN ROAD RECORDINGS’ ARTISTS EARN 25 NOMINATIONS AT 
THE 2012 CANADIAN COUNTRY MUSIC ASSOCIATION AWARDS
Toronto, ON – Canada’s most successful country music label, Open Road Recordings, has received 25
Canadian Country Music Association Award (CCMA) nominations for their
artists. The nominees were announced this morning at the CCMA press
conference in Toronto and include Dean Brody, High Valley, Doc Walker, Emerson Drive, Tara Oram and Ridley Bent.
“It’s
fantastic to see so many bright new and exciting acts on the Canadian
country music scene,” says Ron Kitchener, President of Open Road
Recordings. “The Open Road team and I are once again very proud to
represent a roster of artists that are consistently recognized for their
talents, we wish them all the best.”
Three-time 2011 CCMA Award winner Dean Brody leads with seven nominations in the categories of Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, as well as Single of the Year, Video of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for “Canadian Girls.” Brody is also a contender for Fans’ Choice Award and Interactive Artist of the Year. Catapulting his career with the release of his third studio album, Dirt,
which debuted at #1 on the Canadian Country Charts in April, the first
single “Canadian Girls” hit #1 on the Country radio and has been
certified Gold. Currently his second single, “Bob Marley,” is Top 10 at
radio, he performed at CBC’s Stampede 100! Celebration which aired July
15 nationally and next week, “Canadian Girls” will be featured on the
July 23 episode of Degrassi – The Next Generation. Brody will also
perform live on the 2012 CCMA Awards broadcast.
Trio High Valley earned a nomination for Group or Duo of the Year
and have just announced that they will perform live at the CCMA Awards
this year. Recently finishing a 40-city Canadian tour with country music
legend Paul Brandt, the JUNO Award nominated group released their
sophomore album, Love Is a Long Road, in June. Their first
single off the album, “Have I Told You I Love You Lately,” reached the
Top 10 on Country radio and their latest single, “Let It Be Me,” was the
#1 Most Added Overall and the #1 Greatest Gaining country single in
Canada for two consecutive weeks.
Winnipeg favourites Doc Walker have received two nominations for Album of the Year and Group or Duo of the Year. The band have heavily supported their 2011 release, 16&1, on tour across Canada headlining “Canada Rock” Canada Day Festival and will be performing at Havelock Country Jamboree (August 18), The Kee to Bala (August 25) and the CCMA Cabaret Concert at Saskatoon Prairieland Exhibition (September 7). Also nominated for Group or Duo of the Year are Emerson Drive, who are set to release their new album this Fall following the CCMAs. Their
first single, “She’s My Kind of Crazy,” has just been released to radio
and CMT Canada will air the world premiere of their new video on July
20, 2012.
CCMA Rising Star Award winning artist Tara Oram has been nominated for Female Artist of the Year for the second consecutive time. Oram recently signed on to be a judge of YTV’s The Next Star, which premiered on July 17. Alt-country favorite and multi-award winning Ridley Bent is up for Roots Artist or Group of the Year. Recently, Bent has been in-studio working hard on his new album.
Open Road Recordings has been nominated for Record Company of the Year, an award it has won three years in a row. For the fifth consecutive year, Open Road Recordings president Ron Kitchener has been nominated for Record Company Person of the Year,
which he has been awarded in 2008, 2009 and 2011. Additionally, Brianne
Deslippe, National Promotion Director at Open Road Recordings, has
received a nomination for Record Company Person of the Year. Concluding an incredible list of nominations for Kitchener’s label and artist roster, his management company RGK Entertainment Group Inc. has also been nominated for Management Company of the Year, an award it has won 11 times in the past.
Further nominations for the Open Road Recordings team were received in the following categories: All Star Band and Album Design of the Year.
The CCMA Awards will take place on Sunday, September 9, 2012 in Saskatoon at Credit Union Centre.
