Old Dominion: Stripping Down and Reaching Out with “Me Most Nights” as Tour Dates Beckon
By Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine
Old Dominion has built a career on capturing those raw, unfiltered moments of life and love, wrapping them in melodies that burrow into your subconscious and hooks that feel instantly familiar. From the euphoric rush of reunion in “Coming Home” to the playful push and pull of “Break Up With Him,” the hopeful uncertainty of “Written in the Stars,” and the tangled emotions of “Can’t Break Up Now” with Megan Moroney, this seven-time Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Vocal Group of the Year consistently hits the emotional core of the human experience.
Now, as they delve into the creation of their sixth studio album, the songwriting powerhouse is offering a glimpse into their evolving sound with their latest single, “Me Most Nights,” released today. This acoustic guitar-driven track unfolds with a conversational midtempo, creating a space of shared reflection and quiet understanding between two people grappling with the lingering absence of someone they’ve lost. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of those solitary moments – “smoking, drinking, thinking you’ll always be alone, a heart without a home…” – that inevitably circle back to the aching sentiment of “missing what you had like me most nights…”
Lead singer Matthew Ramsey articulates the relatable core of the song: “That idea of sitting in a bar ‘cause you can’t go home, because of the echoes and memories, is something we’ve all been through. But there’s also the part where you don’t wanna leave your house, too. All the blame, the dumb stuff that you could’ve overlooked, but now it’s too late, and there you are.”
For over a decade, Ramsey, alongside guitarist/vocalist Brad Tursi and keyboard/guitarist/vocalist Trevor Rosen, have honed their craft, not only delivering their own string of No. 1 hits but also penning chart-toppers for the likes of Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan, and Kelsea Ballerini. With the solid rhythmic foundation laid by Geoff Sprung on bass and Whit Sellers on drums, Old Dominion has cultivated a sound that draws in their devoted fanbase, affectionately known as Odies, creating a shared experience where life’s complexities are amplified and understood through their music.
“We’ve spent our career, from the moment we got in a van, playing clubs through all last summer headlining festivals around the world, trying to put the best spin on whatever the emotion is,” Ramsey reflects. “Big bright melodies, that wave of harmonies and a hook that’ll pull you higher, ‘Me Most Nights’ is all of that.”
As their current single “Coming Home” continues its ascent up the charts, cracking the Top 15 and climbing, the Virginia-rooted band understands the anticipation for new music from their loyal fans. Following the release of their fan-inspired “mix tape” Odies but Goodies last year, Old Dominion is gearing up for a massive undertaking: their Summer 2025 How Good Is That – World Tour. “Me Most Nights” serves as an enticing preview of the new project they are crafting, hinting at a collection of songs that promises to be both empowering and deeply resonant. Riding the wave of significant career milestones, Old Dominion appears poised for what could be their most impactful year yet.

About Old Dominion:
Old Dominion’s anthemic songs and electrifying live performances have firmly established them as a dominant force in contemporary country music. Their signature blend of clever lyrics and infectious melodies has resonated deeply with audiences, making them one of the genre’s most popular live acts, as noted by Rolling Stone. Since their emergence, the band has achieved nine No. 1 singles on country radio, garnered over five billion on-demand streams, earned numerous RIAA Platinum and Gold certifications, and headlined arenas and amphitheaters worldwide. Their recent greatest hits compilation, Odies but Goodies, a 31-track collection, serves as a testament to their journey and a tribute to their dedicated fanbase. Currently reigning as the seven-time consecutive Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association “Group of the Year,” Old Dominion made history at the 2024 CMA Awards by breaking the record for the most consecutive wins in the “Vocal Group of the Year” category. To commemorate this milestone, they held a seven-show residency at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium, raising over $1.25 million for various charities they support. Their continued recognition within the industry is evident in their tenth consecutive “Group of the Year” nomination at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards.
