We just had the incredible traditional country singer Red
Johnson at the Oak Tree Opry in Anita, Iowa.  You might remember he
recorded “There’s A Grand Ole Opry Show Playing Somewhere” for Capitol
Records, and he’s still going strong.  This was a very busy weekend in
our little area of America, the big ‘Antique Walk’ was taking place in
Walnut, Iowa.  That alone draws thousands and thousands of people for
the entire weekend.  This small town, where we once owned the opera
house, fills the streets with antique vendors.  It’s amazing to see all
of this take place.  Also the College World Series is on in Omaha,
Nebraska, which is another of those incredibly huge attendance record
setters.  Both Sheila and I like the College Series, these young guys
really like, and know how, to play great baseball.  The weather wasn’t
all that great for us in Anita, Iowa where our Oak Tree is located, and
was raining so hard when the show was over the folks could hardly get to
their cars.  So we had a small drop in attendance, but not enough to
put anyone off.  Our next show is July 5th, and it’s going to be one
super-great show celebrating Independence Day.  That’s our 4th of July
celebration honoring the signing of the Declaration of Independence, our
freedoms, and our actual declaration of being our own country on planet
earth. Things have sure changed since that all happened in 1776 when we
decided we no longer were part of the British Empire.  Our July 5th
show will feature the last flag that flew over Vietnam, the story of how
it got out of Vietnam, and the young officer that brought it home. Our
special guests will be Lee Muller from Kansas who is known for the song
“Black Diamond Strings” and Jackie Shewey who does her own original
“Just Look At Old Glory.”  Both have terrific CD’s, and they are
both terrific performers of classic and traditional country music, right
down the Oak Tree’s alley.  Reserved seats are still only $10 at 712-762-4363
Sheila also has those great Polish Sausages in the concession stand
along with super-good Ballpark hot dogs, done the European way with lots
of pickle relish, mustard, and ketsup.  It’s going to be a super fun
5th of July for us.”  Bob Everhart www.ntcma.net
