America - Live At The TroubadourFairfax, VA (January 17, 2012) — Time Life has released new, acoustic versions of the biggest and most treasured songs by iconic folk group America, recorded during their 40th anniversary year at the legendary Troubadour club in Los Angeles.  These special versions include two #1 hits, “Sister Golden Hair” and “Horse With No Name,” and two Top 10’s, “Ventura Highway”  and “I Need You,” and are now available for download in both audio and video format at all major e-tailers including iTunes, Amazon.com and others.

“We are thrilled to be working with America on several levels and having them record these versions of several of their hits was a great opportunity,” noted Time Life Executive Producer Mitch Peyser.  “The songs are timeless and we find that there continues to be great interest in America and their unique sound.”

The recordings were made in Los Angeles on June 9, 2010 at the world famous Troubadour club during the filming of the highly successful Time Life infomercial “Singers & Songwriters.”  Dewey Bunnell recalls, “We were here many, many nights seeing other artists and friends… JD Souther, Jackson Browne and other bands that were here.  It was quite a hangout and still is.” “But we never really hit the stage of The Troubadour,” adds Gerry Beckley, explaining the irony of being at the club so many nights, yet never performing there before. On that June afternoon, during their 40th year in the music business together, Bunnell and Beckley celebrated a career that has brought them multiple #1 and Top 10 hits, critically acclaimed albums and sold out worldwide tours by performing classic songs with that unforgettable America sound.

America’s serene folk melodies and sweetly mystical lyrics took over the pop charts in the early 1970s, garnering fans who continue to flock to their concerts.  The group won a Grammy Award, has five Top 10 albums, three #1 singles and 11 Top 40 hits.  Later this year, America will be honored with a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.
