This is a ‘live’ recording of one of America’s most
gifted bluegrass bands, Mountain Heart.  Performing for a huge crowd at
the Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2007, this remarkably well engineered
‘live’ recording is incredibly good.  “Live” always has many and
difficult problems to overcome to make it a listenable product, but the
engineers and producer Jim VanCleve managed to overcome all of it with
ease.  This group is a powerful group, some would call it progressive
bluegrass, I however would say it’s a conglomeration of some of the best
music instrumentalists in the business, with one very very powerful
lead singer, Josh Shilling, who also contributes his talents to
songwriting as well as playing guitar and piano.  Impeccable.

From the very go-git, this performance in
Michigan before this huge crowd, Mountain Heart completely has them in
the palm of their hands. This is without a doubt one of the most gifted
acoustic music groups playing in America these days, and is a good
indication of where ‘gifted’ music is headed in our country.
“Country.”  Ah, yes, ‘country’ has failed miserably with their bought
and paid for stagnant three minutes.  Bluegrass, and acoustic music in
general, on the other hand, especially performed by gifted artists like
Mountain Heart, proves once again that ‘talent’ and ‘gift’ will prevail,
no matter how hard the ‘business’ of music tries to deny it.  “Who’s
The Fool Now?”  I don’t care how much hype we get pounded into our poor
simple minds, God has a way to shine through all that crap.  God has a
way to bring our ‘gifted’ ones forward.  God has a way to remind all of
us that He makes the final decisions, and He will prevail.  Isn’t it
amazing the ‘message’ these young guys carry to their manifold
fans….”God And Everybody” WILL prevail.

Keith Levy at New Frontier Touring sent me Mountain
Heart’s CD, and I’m glad he did.  “The Gospel Train” took this
remarkable group to the stage at the Ark, one of the top music clubs in
the world.  The Ark is kind of like us, a non-profit organization
dedicated to the enrichment of the human spirit through the
presentation, preservation, and encouragement of folk, roots, and ethnic
music and related arts. It might also very well take them to the
largest old-time acoustic music festival in upper Midwest America.  Ten
stages and 600 performers, might very well be on their ‘stop’ list, to
pick up “Bluegrass CD of the Year.”  This would be a definite
opportunity to see if these wonderful musicians can ‘move’ an over-50
audience as easily as they do that Michigan crowd. It all takes time,
but God will have His way.
