Michael Martin Murphey Makes Rare Appearance At SXSW
“Murphey was one of the formative voices and most sophisticated songwriters of the progressive-country boom that defined the city’s music in that era,” wrote John T. Davis in the Austin American Statesman. “Murphey originals such as ‘Geronimo’s Cadillac,’ ‘Alley’s of Austin’ and ‘Backslider’s Wine’ remain among the most graceful and accomplished tunes to come out of Austin’s turbulent country-rock scene.“
Michael Martin Murphey has been an intregral part of the American Music Landscape for more than four decades. With classic hits including “Wildfire,” “Carolina In The Pines,” “What’s Forever For,” “Long Line of Love” and “Geronimo’s Cadillac” among others, Murphey has earned six gold albums and multiple Grammy nominations. As a songwriter, his work has been covered by John Denver, The Monkees, Lyle Lovett, Johnny Lee, Kenny Rogers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jerry Jeff Walker, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, and a host of other recording artists.
His 2009 release, Buckaroo Blue Grass, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album. The followup, Buckaroo Blue Grass II: Riding Song, was greeted with tremendous acclaim.
