Michael Lee: A Journey Back to Country Music – By Christian Lamitschka
Michael Lee continues to prove to country music what has been missing all along – his smooth baritone voice. Having shared the stage with legends like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, Zac Brown, Luke Bryan, and Little Big Town, Michael is poised to win over country music fans with his soulful vocals and his ability to connect through relatable songs and shared experiences.
Born and raised in northwest Georgia, Michael’s musical journey began at the tender age of 14, singing gospel songs in church. He quickly developed a natural stage presence and learned to play guitar in high school, performing throughout his local communities. It was during this time that Michael discovered his true calling as a songwriter.
In the early 2000s, Michael and a friend formed the country music duo Buck and Duke. They gained traction in the industry, catching the attention of Grammy Award-winning producer Wilbur C. Rimes. Rimes helped them record a debut album, launching their careers as they performed at showcases for major record labels in Nashville. Michael also collaborated with renowned songwriter Pat Alger (Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame) and recorded duets with the late Daryle Singletary and bluegrass legend Rhonda Vincent.
Despite their success, Michael faced a difficult decision. The demands of touring and the responsibilities of being a husband and father began to weigh heavily on him. He chose to prioritize his family, stepping away from the duo to spend more time at home. “We felt we both had other callings,” Michael says of the duo’s parting. “We remain close friends and still write songs together.” During this time, he recorded several Christian country projects with Red Hen Records.
In late 2019, Michael met an individual with a unique vision for a new record label: Private Label Artists. Believing in their vision, Michael signed a record deal, reigniting his passion for music.
“My biggest dream is to one day sing on the Grand Ole Opry stage,” Michael confidently declares. He is currently recording a new mainstream country album and eager to share his music with the world.
Influenced by traditional artists like George Jones and Merle Haggard, Michael was deeply shaped by 90s country stars such as Garth Brooks, Clint Black, Alan Jackson, and Brooks & Dunn. “I grew up listening to all types of music, but country was always at the forefront,” he says, recalling his family’s musical roots. When not in the studio or on tour, Michael enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.
One listen to Michael Lee’s music, and you’ll understand that he represents the reality of life – the choices we make, the challenges we face, and the enduring power of family and music.
