Mackenzie Porter Interview

Mackenzie Porter Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

How was last year and what were your highlights?

Last year was a year of
firsts for me – I released my first new music in years, went on my
first cross country tour, got my first two #1 songs … and got engaged to
my #1 guy! It was seriously one of the best
years of my life.

Your current single is being played by radio, what do you feel is special about the song that makes people wanna hear it?

My current single is a
nostalgic song about missing an old love. The lyrics are super real,
descriptive and visceral. We have all had that first love. We all know
what it feels like to miss that person. I think
that’s why people relate to the song

What will your next single be?

My single is called “These Days” … can’t wait for you to hear it!

What kind of songs do you like to record the most ?

I love recording sad
songs! I’m actually a very happy person, but there is something about
cutting off the lights in the studio and recording something emotional.

How much creative control do you have over your music?

I have a TON of creative
control over my music! Of course I have a big team to help that is
incredible but my hands and heart are on all aspects of my music.

What do you think about today’s music industry?

I think it’s all slowly
heading in the right direction! You are seeing way more females in the
country scene and on country radio, and it’s going to keep getting
better and better.

What drives you?

I truly LOVE what I do! I
love country music. It’s easy to wake up every day and work your butt
off when you love what you are doing!

If you could change something about the music industry what would it be?

More women and equally opportunities. I think the best song should win no matter who it comes from.

Who is your biggest critic ?

100% me – I want
everything to be perfect and when it doesn’t go that way, I can feel
really disappointed… but I’m working on it!

When you get time off how do you like to relax?

I love spending time with my family, my fiancé, my friends and my pup…I also love traveling and drinking wine!
