Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road release their new single, Molly Rose
By Alan Shipston for Country Music News International Magazine
Bluegrass fans have waited for Molly Rose for some time as this lively track features bassist, Kevin Lamm on his first ever lead vocal for a Carolina Road release. “I’ve always loved the energy this song brings to our shows and fans request this song often,” says Lorraine Jordan. “Kevin brings such a fresh feel to the lead vocal and I think listeners are really going to connect with his performance on Molly Rose.”
The banjo kicks off the eight bar intro as Kevin steps up to sing, “When Molly Rose came to town, fellas would come from miles around to see her dance and smile, her long red hair and blue green eyes, cast a spell that hypnotized all of us for a while,” as the fiddle weaves in and out of the vocal and then continues to take the first ride. Written by Lynwood Lunsford, Molly Rose tells the spirited story of a beautiful young woman whose charm and presence captured the attention of every man in town. Long a staple of the band’s live performances, the upbeat tune originally appeared on their album, A Little Bit of Bluegrass. With their great three-part harmony, the story continues with “My Molly Rose, I love you girl, you’re the prettiest thing in the world and l long to hold you close to me.” This leads into an acoustic guitar solo which takes it back into, “But by tomorrow you’ll be gone and I’ll still be here all alone dreaming of you,” as the band tags the song out to the final chord.
The players on this session include Kevin Lamm singing lead vocals and playing the bass, Allen Dyer is on guitar and vocals, Lorraine Jordan on mandolin and harmony vocals, Ben Greene plays the banjo and sings baritone vocals, while Matt Hooper is on fiddle and Wayne Morris plays guitar. As one of the leading forces in today’s traditional Bluegrass landscape, Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road continue to build momentum both on stage and in the studio. While Carolina Road celebrates the release of Molly Rose, members of the broader musical family are also gearing up for more new music, including an upcoming single from the new Country Grass II project. This collaboration will center around Country Grass members Allen Dyer and Lorraine Jordan teaming up with some of traditional country music’s biggest and most beloved names.
Available on Pinecastle Records, Molly Rose is sure to please all their loyal fans and help introduce new ones to their unmistakable sound.
