He just released a chart topping country duets album, but Lionel Richie
won’t be singing with any amateurs on ABC’s new show “Duets.” He has
dropped out as a mentor. John Legend is replacing him. Sugarland’s
Jennifer Nettles will still be a mentor on the show along with Kelly
Clarkson and Robin Thicke. According to Entertainment Weekly, Richie’s
publicist says “personal scheduling conflicts” are to blame. The mentors
search for two duet partners across the country and perform with them
before a live audience. The winning partner gets a recording contract.
“Duets” premieres May 24 on ABC.
