Levon Helm Dies At 71

Country fans will always remember Levon Helm for playing Loretta Lynn’s
father in the 1980 movie “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Helm died yesterday
of complications from throat cancer. He was diagnosed in 1998. Helm was
the son of an Arkansas cotton farmer. The Band started out as Bob
Dylan’s backup group. Helm played drums and sang on classic rock songs
like “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “The Weight” and “Up on
Cripple Creek.” He was 71.
