Lefroy on Country Music News International Radio Show!
November 30th interviewed by Big Al Weekley!
Lefroy: A Family United by Music and a Mission
The music industry welcomes a new force: Lefroy. But this band isn’t just about catchy tunes and energetic performances. Driven by a desire for unity and a passion for a cure, Lefroy is making waves with their heartfelt remake of Bob Dylan’s classic “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and their dedication to supporting Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
A Song Born from Unity
The mastermind behind Lefroy is Barry Lefroy, a seasoned Canadian bass player with a successful entrepreneurial background. Witnessing the social unrest around him, Barry envisioned a powerful message of peace and compassion. This vision took shape as a unique reinterpretation of Dylan’s iconic song. Partnering with his son, Barry Lefroy II, and his son’s close collaborators – Paul Susanka and Kevan Wallace – Barry Sr. spearheaded the project as executive producer.
A Family Affair: Music in Their Blood
Music runs deep in the Lefroy family. Barry Lefroy II, introduced to the bass by his father, began his musical journey early. By high school, he and Paul Susanka were already forming bands, exploring different genres from metal to hardcore. Their musical partnership continued into rap, with Barry showcasing his lyrical prowess and Paul mastering the technical aspects of production and video creation. This dynamic duo now brings their combined talents to Lefroy, determined to keep pushing musical boundaries.
A Collaboration of Legends
The Lefroy sound is a product of not only family, but a stellar line-up of musicians. Their debut EP, “Rockin’ The Country,” boasts a who’s-who of the industry, including Grammy award-winning producers and seasoned session artists. Among these heavyweights are:
- Jeff Babko (collaborated with James Taylor, Frank Ocean, Neil Young, and countless others)
- Tim Pierce (legendary guitarist who has played with Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, and more)
- Josh Freese (renowned drummer for Guns N’ Roses, Weezer, and others)
- Ron Block (Grammy-winning banjo player known for his work with Alison Krauss & Union Station)
- A list goes on, featuring virtuosos on violin, mandolin, pedal steel, saxophone, and vocals
This impressive roster of talent ensures exceptional musicianship woven into Lefroy’s music.
Beyond the Music: A Mission of Hope
Lefroy’s commitment goes far beyond creating great music. While their remake of “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” is a powerful statement in itself, the band is also dedicated to supporting JDRF in their fight to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. All proceeds from the song will be donated to the foundation, making each purchase an act of hope and support.
The Future of Lefroy
Inspired by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Lefroy dreams big. Their vision extends beyond the studio, encompassing a live show filled with elaborate set pieces, pyrotechnics, and an incredible line-up of Southern California musicians. This promises to be an unforgettable experience for audiences.
Lefroy is more than just a band; it’s a family united by music and a mission. Their talent, dedication to a cause, and ambitious vision make them a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. With their debut EP and a passion for making a difference, Lefroy is knocking on the door of the future, ready to leave their mark.
