Lee Greenwood Tribute to San Antonio’s Fallen Heroes

Grammy Award-Winning Artist Lee Greenwood
Set for Pre-Game Performance During Tribute to San Antonio’s
Fallen Heroes At Valero Alamo Bowl, December 29, 8pm
Lee GreenwoodNashville, TN (December 27, 2011) — Country music star Lee Greenwood will participate in a very special tribute to 60 of San Antonio’s fallen military heroes when he performs the National Anthem and “God Bless the USA” at the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Texas on December 29th, at 8pm. The Valero Alamo Bowl will feature the Washington Huskies and the Baylor Bears.
A long-time supporter of our troops and their families, Greenwood’s pre-game performance will honor those military heroes from the San Antonio area who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past ten years. A city that knows firsthand the importance of fighting for our country’s freedom, members of Lackland Air Force Base 37th Training Wing will unfurl the full field American flag as Greenwood sings “God Bless the USA.” The evening will be especially meaningful for 2011 Valero Bowl Chairman and Spurs team physician, Dr. David Schmidt, whose son recently lost his life while serving in the Marines.
An American Patriot, Greenwood is a Presidential Appointee serving on The National Endowment for the Arts Council. In addition, he was honored with the prestigious National Patriot’s Award, presented by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.
“God Bless the USA,” written by Greenwood in 1983, has been in the top 5 on the country singles charts three times (1985, 1991 and 2001). “I Want to Be in Your World,” Greenwood’s new seven-track EP, was recently released, and his new book is scheduled for publication next Spring.
