Kristy Cox Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout
Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe
yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Answer: Youthful energy infused bluegrass
and acoustic country music.

Lamitschka:  How was the last year for you? What
were your highlights?

Answer:  2017 was an incredible year for
me. It saw me winning Bluegrass Recording of the Year at the Australian Country
Music Awards, signing a new record deal in the USA with Mountain Fever Records
and recording my latest album ‘Ricochet’ which was released in January 2018.

Lamitschka:  What is your latest CD and how’s it
doing?

Answer:  My latest release is ‘Ricochet’
it has been going brilliantly. The debut single and title track reached #1 on
the Bluegrass Today charts and on the Australian Country Radio charts. The
album debuted on 6 billboard sales charts. I am incredibly excited that so many
people are enjoying my music.

Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the
CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

Answer:  I usually try to find a title
in a song that reflects where I am in my life. ‘Ricochet’ however just felt
right, I am not sure why I chose it, I just kept coming back to it.

Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If
not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Answer:  I try to write as many songs
for my albums as I can. However I just want the best 10 tracks, if I wrote them
or not. My producer Jerry Salley helps me find the material for the album, I
pick songs that I can relate to and can perform them with the emotion I would
if I had written them myself.

Lamitschka:  You did a duet with Brandon Rickman.
How did that happen to come about?

Answer:  I saw Brandon at a show in
Nashville and told him I was going to record a new album, I asked him if he had
any songs that I might consider recording. He sent me over ‘A Bed This Cold’
and I loved it and new I wanted to record it as a duet. I was going to record
it with Country artist Daryl Worley but unfortunately our schedules would not
allow it. I asked Brandon and he said he would love to.. so we did. I am so
glad the song ended up being recorded with Brandon. He is such a great talent
and a great guy! It is one of my favourites on the album.

Lamitschka:  How much creative control do you
have over your music?

Answer:  My incredible record label
give me 100% creative control, this is one of the many things I love about
working with them. It allows me to truly showcase who I am as an artist and as
a person.

Lamitschka:  As an artist, you so many tasks such
as recording, touring, interviews. What do you like best, what’s your favorite
activity?

Answer:  Performing is my favourite
part of music. I love to be on stage and perform in front of new people. The
stage is my happy place, it is where I have no worries and where I am most
myself. I am a lucky lady to be able to do what I do for a living. I do not
take any of it for granted.

Lamitschka:  Who is your biggest critic, yourself
or others?

Answer:  Myself or my husband for sure.
I want to be the best version of myself both in music and in life. I never want
to settle for what I have, I want to continue to grow.

Lamitschka:  When you get time off, how do you
like to relax?

Answer:  I don’t take time off… watch
this space haha!
