Kendall Gary Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:
How did you choose the title for the CD?
Is there a story behind the name?

Answer: I
wrote out by hand all the titles of my songs that were on my CD. I then tried
to think of what all the songs had in common. I then came to realize that they
were all for someone. Whether it was for a love interest or to encourage
someone, each song was written as if it were for a particular person in the
listener’s life. Which the title of this CD will be released soon!

Lamitschka:
What is your favorite song among all the songs you have recorded and
what’s the story behind it?

Answer: My
favorite song that I have recorded is my current single out now, Head Held
High. Being my favorite song, it was the first single to be released from my
album. My inspiration really came from one of my friends from high school. I
wrote it after I found out she had left our school after being excessively
bullied, and it reminded me of when I was younger and in a position like her. I
wanted a song that would empower people that were always told they were never
good enough or would never succeed. I wrote this for people who need a little
reminder to not allow others to bring them down, and that they are never alone
no matter the situation.

Lamitschka:
How much creative control do you have over your music?

Answer:  I would say that I have most of the creative control
over my own music. I really enjoy in being a part of the production process. It
allows me to guarantee that my music sounds the way I intended it to, and
allows me to also make sure my audience is hearing the song the way I
envisioned it in my head.

Lamitschka:
Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by
your music?

Answer: My
best friend Morgan loves my song ‘17’. I will never forget the night I showed
her the song. I wanted her to be the first person outside of my family to hear
the song.

As we
listened to the song I looked over and saw tears rolling down her face, we were
both a mess. She told me that she felt the song was about her and her unspoken
struggles, heartaches, and insecurities. Till this day, 5 years later, she
tells me that the song I wrote is still relevant to her and is what keeps her
going on days that she needs a “pick me up” if we can’t talk. This is my
favorite story because I was able to experience my music touch someone else in
the way I had always hoped it would.

Lamitschka:
What inspired you to become an artist/songwriter?

Answer: My
inspiration really began with the love of performing. Every since I was a
little girl I was encouraged to always sing and perform for my parents. Growing
up, I was often told that I would never make it as an artist unless I was able
to also write my own music. Through being constantly told this, it lit a fire
under me and truly inspired me to have my own voice. I was also inspired to
hopefully use my emotions to help my audience relate to me on a more personal
level.

Lamitschka:
What drives you?

Answer:
The thing that drives me the most in the world would be my family. My parents,
along with my siblings, have always been my biggest fans. They are always there
for me no matter how discouraged I become overtime, and are always the first
ones to pick me right back up and get me started in the right direction again.

Lamitschka:
Who is your biggest critic, yourself or others?

Answer: I
would have to say myself. I’m always pretty hard on myself because I know what
I’m really capable of, and truly know my abilities. So when I perform and don’t
do as well I know I can, I get frustrated with myself and try to think of ways
to improve for the future.

Lamitschka:
Is there any place you haven’t played that you would like to?

Answer: I
think my biggest goal would be to play in the Grand Ole Opry. This venue, in my
mind, is where you play a concert once you’ve established yourself within
country music.

Lamitschka:
What can your fans expect to see if they saw you in concert?

Answer: I
think I would bring a high amount of energy to the concert. I love to entertain
whether that is with cracking side jokes (I think I’m funny), or getting the
audience involved. I just love to make sure everyone is having a good time, and
to create a fun environment.

Lamitschka:
Many music fans today get their information about artists online. Do you
have your own website and what will fans find there?

Answer:
Yes I do, It’s thekendallgary.com! On there you’ll be able to find links to all
my social media, links where my music is sold, blog posts, recent news about my
career, and a whole lot more!
