Kane Vincent is looking for country in Tokyo

Australian country artist Kane Vincent returns with his latest single, Tokyoa witty, heartfelt release that blends modern country storytelling with a playful spirit of escapism. The idea for Tokyo was born in a moment Vincent found himself sharing a coffee and conversation with his mate and collaborator, although not related, Jacob Vincent.  Their discussion drifted toward a familiar feeling among songwriters and musicians of never quite measuring up.  Trying to decide if they were country enough for country, a throwaway joke about giving up on Nashville and heading to Japan instead quickly sparked something bigger.  Leaning into the humor and honesty of that moment, the pair wrote Tokyo as a tongue-in-cheek nod to breaking the mold and trying to find a place to fit in.

Musically, Tokyo pairs a classic country arrangement with an energetic, contemporary edge, driven by Telecaster style licks, fiddle hooks and Vincent’s unmistakable vocal sincerity wrapped around steel guitar pads.  A solid rhythm section propels the song forward with an authentic lively vigor creating a comfortable sonic bed for the musicians to solo over.  Beneath the wordsmith wit lies the quiet doubt, ambition and resilience that define life as a working musician, punctuated by the “you can’t win until you lose” axiom evident throughout the song.

Following a run of live performances and growing attention within Australia’s country scene, his new release marks another step forward for Vincent as both a storyteller and recording artist.  Over the last seven years he’s lugged his guitar from pubs, to parties and festivals with a loveable spirit, impressive song writing and engaging vocals that have won him the 2024 Country On Keppel Talent Search; a definitive, “I reckon I can do this” moment.  Keenly observant, Kane finds lyrical inspiration in both the mundane and extraordinary stories of the everyday.  His songs have a folk/pop sensibility, a soulful edge, more than a hint of country and a familiar nod to the blues.

Vincent Kane was born and raised in Echuca, Australia, but spent his formative teen years in Urbana, Illinois where he found his love for guitar.  He took to heart, the lyrics of a Jason Isbel song to “find what makes you happy and do it till you’re gone.”  That driving ambition has led to numerous concert appearances at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Molesworth Country and Bluegrass Festival as well as video rotation on CMT and a title track on ABC Saturday Night Country.
