Julie is the same Julie of the famous Johansen Sisters, who
is now recording and performing with her husband Mike Couch. And a
good job they do of it. They were just recently at the Oak Tree
Performance Center in Anita, Iowa, a couple of weeks ago, and did a
marvelous job entertaining the folks. Julie is a wonderful acoustic
guitar player, a terrific songwriter (she wrote ‘Cup of Joe’ from a
writer’s contest we did in Missouri Valley), and a wonderful country
singer as well. Mike is a fine key board player, and vocalist too. I
recognized a different guitar lead in the very first song, and believe
that might be Tex Schutz who picked it. We also get to hear him on
Dobro on several of the selections, especially good on ‘Candy Kisses.’
He’s also an accomplished mandolinist, and we hear him on that
instrument on ‘Foolin’ Around.’ Tex is also the record producer and
engineer at Red Dog Studio that does such good acoustic music
recordings. This one is no exception, it’s right on the top of the
game, especially in the mix, the sound we hear when Mike and Julie are
harmonizing their beautiful voices. It’s also a great listening
experience to hear this delightful duo picking such neat country songs
to listen to. Mike stands out, shining brightly, on Floyd Cramer’s
great hit, “Last Date.” I enjoyed Julie’s original “Cowboy Boots and
Bathing Suits,” what a neat story. An all around super good classic and
traditional country music CD, not anywhere on the horizon in Nashville,
because they don’t record this kind of music there anymore, but it’s
available from the Red Dog Studio, because that’s what Tex Schutz does
so well. His mate, Mary Schutz, I’m sure had a hand in designing the
cover of this very likable CD by Julie & Mike Couch, even though she
is not listed as such. I like the Couch’s invitation…. “Join us as
we meander down a path of great memories and good country music….
straight from our hearts.” I couldn’t say it any better, much
congratulations to this very nice couple, who will be performing at the
LeMars Festival, and the Hastings Festival this year. I’m sending it
off to the Rural Roots Music Commission, however some of the
participants in this enterprise is off on vacation, but we’ll see what
happens.

Julie, Assuming you are the singer who was at Richmont yesterday, I wanted to let you know I left early to catch a bus to an outing. Certainly not because I wanted to miss your performance. I thoroughly enjoyed your music and great voice as part of your Country Music presentation.
FYI
I recently found Arron Wilburn on U-tube singing unusual country love songs. He is a hoot. He passed about 3 years ago, but has been a source of great laughter.
Thanks for entertaining us, and hope to see you back,
George
