Jr. Williams from the band NewTown Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

1: What is your
latest CD and how’s it doing?

Answer: Our
latest recording is titled “Old World.” The two singles that have been
released have been received very well by listeners. We’re very proud of it.

2: How did you
choose the title for the CD, is there a story behind the name?

Answer:
There are a lot of story songs on the CD, like all our previous CDs. We
love story songs. This particular CD happens to have story songs from many
different periods in time, so the record company came up with the title, which
I think is very appropriate.

3: How much
creative control do you have over your music?

Answer: We
actually have full control of our music. Kati (vocals and fiddle) gathers all
the material for our records, then the band pores over all the music, and we
come to a final choice of tunes over a few months’ time. We then get
together and start rehearsing the tunes to see who is going to be singing lead
on a particular song.

4:
Many music fans today gather information about artists online. Do you have a
website and what will fans find it there?

Answer:
Yes! Our website is www.thenewtownband.com. We have our tour schedule,
product, photos, videos — things of that nature. Plus, we have a Facebook page
under the NewTown band.

5:
Do you write your songs yourself?

Answer:
We have many writers who we’ve used over the years that write incredible
material for us. Jon Weisberger, Jeremy Garrett, Tyler Childers, CJ Cain, Sarah
Siskind, and Donna Hughes, among others, have become familiar with our vocal
styles and choice of subjects we like to record, and they never cease to amaze
us with the tunes they crank out!

6:
Please tell us about the songs on your album?

Answer:
There is so much great material on this particular record, it’s hard to spell
it all out. Donna Hughes wrote the first single, titled “Naomi Wise,” a factual
story that happened in North Carolina many, many years ago.  I
encourage everyone to check out our music on Spotify, you will find our new
record there along with all of our other music.

7:
What kind of songs do you like to record the most?

Answer:
I personally like good story songs. They don’t need to be factual, just tell a
very vivid story, one that the listener can close their eyes and visually see
the story played out.

8:
What inspired you to become an artist?

Answer:
I was always a fan of Buck Owens, Porter Wagner, Marty Robbins, and watching their
television shows as a kid, I always envisioned myself on their shows, singing
alongside all the Grand Ole Opry stars. We play shows with many of the
Bluegrass stars of today — it seems like dreams do come true.

9:
Is there any place you haven’t played that you would like to.

Answer:
Well, we just returned from a trip to France, which was one of the highlights
of our career! I personally would love to play a tour in Scotland,
Ireland, England, Norway, Switzerland, etc. European countries are a hotbed for
our style of music, and we would love to tour there someday.

10:  When you were on tour do you have
time to play tourist?

Answer:
Ha, ha! I wish it were that easy! So often you are traveling from city to
city, with very little time in between for sightseeing. From time to time
we may have several hours to see some of the sites, but not very often.
