Goulburn-based country singer/songwriter Jordi Woods makes an exciting entrance onto the Australian country scene with his debut single, “City Bound,” available now on RTC Records. The track is a heartfelt and energetic ode to the ambition that pulls young Australians from their rural roots toward the horizon, and it positions Woods as a compelling new voice in Australian country rock.
Scheduled for release on November 3 (and currently available for pre-save), “City Bound” captures the relentless spirit of the rural work ethic, directly inspired by Woods’s own life and that of his family.
The Pulse of the Land and the Lure of Ambition
The inspiration for “City Bound” is deeply personal, stemming from the life of Woods’s brother, who works as a rural contractor chasing harvest seasons across the country. The song perfectly encapsulates the magnetic pull between the rhythm of the land and the lure of the city. It’s a narrative about chasing ambition, driven by necessity and the road, while still holding fiercely onto the values forged in the country.
The track was co-written by Woods alongside industry heavyweights Jayne Denham and Rory Phillips during his time at the prestigious Academy of Country Music. This collaboration has resulted in a song that blends authentic storytelling with a sharp, commercially polished edge.
The production, handled by Simon Johnson, gives “City Bound” a robust country-rock foundation that allows Woods’s “powerhouse voice” to soar. The production features a stellar lineup of musicians, including Johnson himself on bass and background vocals, Brad Bergen on drums, Rusty Crook on electric guitar, James Gillard on acoustic guitar, Liam Kennedy-Clark on keys, and Kelly Hope also on background vocals. The resulting sound is dynamic, capturing the “drive of ambition” in its energetic arrangement, complete with driving guitars and a strong rhythmic pulse that feels tailored for both highway cruising and festival stages.
The Voice of a New Country Generation
Jordi Woods arrives in the Australian music industry with a mandate: “As a proud country artist with cowboy roots, I’m here to tell authentic stories and earn my place in the industry with heart, hard work, and honesty.”
Hailing from Goulburn, Woods has been building his reputation for more than a decade. His journey began in his high school band, The Young Colts, where his soaring vocals quickly caught local attention. He honed his dynamic stage presence through performances at regional events like Vibesfest and Winterfest, and his dedication was formally recognized by his school with the Contribution to Creative Performing Arts honour.
Woods is a proud 2024 graduate of the Academy of Country Music, where he refined his craft under the mentorship of industry legends, including co-writer Jayne Denham, Anthony Snape, and the beloved folk act, The Bushwackers. He continues to invest in his vocal development, studying under the guidance of 10-time Golden Guitar winner Lyn Bowtell, two-time Golden Guitar Finalist Hayley Jensen, and the Hume Conservatorium.
This rigorous commitment has made him a sought-after live performer. Woods has already shared the stage with industry heavyweights such as The Bushwackers and Amber Lawrence and has played major events including Dallas Down Under, Rodeo Bullarama, A Day on the Green, Neville Country Muster, and Sunset Sounds.
With “City Bound,” Jordi Woods doesn’t just announce his arrival; he drives it home with a song that is as genuine as his rural roots and as ambitious as his future on the stage. It’s a powerful debut that will undoubtedly resonate with anyone who understands the pull of the road and the meaning of hard work.
