Wurts formed AV, a not-for-profit organization, in 2013 to develop
the world’s first suite of mobile and online tools to help families
manage life on the Autism spectrum by connecting them with Autism-friendly businesses, organizations and places. Orr will perform his song, “We’ll Get By (The Autism Song)” from his debut EP, DOWN SOUTH. The emotionally-rendered
track continues to fuel a passionate discourse both within and beyond
the Autism community, and the video has generated over 450,000 YouTube views for the North Carolina-based entertainer.
For Orr, the FOX & FRIENDS appearance is a welcome continuation of his commitment to help those affected by Autism. “I wrote ‘We’ll Get By’ at the request of a friend whose twin sons are autistic,” Johnny recalls. “There are over three million individuals in the American Autism community, and the support network is just not there for them. It does ‘take
a village,’ and AUTISM VILLAGE is quickly closing the gap on those
needs. I am thrilled to help them launch this challenge,” Orr adds.
AV launched their Kickstarter campaign on March 6 in order to fund a Yelp for Autism
app. In just 11 days, the campaign surpassed its initial goal
of $38,500; the amount needed to launch the app. They hope the
appearance on Fox & Friends will inspire more backers, which
will allow them to add Android and tablet versions of the app, and begin
a training program for businesses.
