JOHN REX REEVES
Look Behind You, There I’ll Be

John Rex Reeves is without a doubt the ‘best’ Jim Reeves singer going today. Maybe it’s because he’s Jim Reeves nephew. I don’t object to people performing and dedicating their music to our great singers of the past. One thing that bothers me today is those that do the music of living artists. Just the other day I saw an advertisement announcing a band who were billed as doing the music of the Rolling Stones, exactly as the Stones do it? Isn’t that a trespass or something like that. Anyway, in the case of John Rex Reeves, it really isn’t a note-perfect reproduction of Jim Reeves. It’s Jim Reeves songs done in the voice of John Rex Reeves, and the fact that they sound incredibly alike isn’t a make-up stage production, it’s just the way it is. John grew up only three miles from where his Uncle Jim did, and spent huge amounts of time with him. They played golf together, and John listened to his Uncle sing on the Louisiana Hayride, remembering very distinctly when Jim’s first hit “Mexican Joe” started getting air play. What I really like about John Rex Reeves music is the backing musicians. The keyboard is supreme, much like it was with Jim, and the electric guitar the same. This particular musical style is so romantic, so quieting, so serene, John Rex is carrying on not just the music of a giant, but he’s carrying on a tradition. John Rex came to our festival in LeMars, Iowa, to accept Jim Reeves into America’s Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame. You can find that information at www.ntcma.net and John Rex also received CD of the year. I’m passing this incredibly good CD on to the Rural Roots Music Commission for the same reasons. If you like Jim Reeves, you will also like John Rex Reeves. If you loved Jim Reeves music, you will also love John Rex Reeves music. May I please recommend Mr. Reeves that you contact Jack Langley, 2014 W 14th St., Sioux City, Iowa, 51103, he has two songs that would fit you perfectly.
