Joe Hott Interview by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout Europe who
may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself
and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?

Answer:  I like to play it the old time way and keep
it traditional which is what I grew up on. I love The Stanley Brothers and so I
try to carry on that type of  old school
mountain music.

Lamitschka:  How was the last year for you? What were your
highlights?

Answer:  We had a very good year of traveling and
making apperences but the biggest highlight would be signing with Rural Rhythm
Records and recording at Sony Studios.

Lamitschka:  What is your latest CD and how’s it doing?

Answer:  Our latest full album is “Last Thing On My
Mind” it features Jamey Johnson and The Whites along with some fantastic
musicians. It was recorded in Nashville last year and produced by Steve Thomas.

Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the CD?  Is there a story behind the name?

Answer:  The title was actually chosen by both my
managers and producer they felt “Last Thing On My Mind” was one of the
strongest songs on the record and would be a favorite among people searching
for traditional country.

Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how
do you go about finding the songs for your CD?

Answer:  I do not no. I meet with and co write with
Glen Duncan and Adam Englehardt of Sony Publishing/Studios. They are fantastic
song writers and I really enjoy working with them.

Lamitschka:  Your current single is being played by radio.
What do you feel is special about this song that makes people want to hear it?

Answer:  “West Virginia Rail” is the current single
being played right now and it’s a fast, hard driving traditional song that
tells the story of people who have had to leave home in search of work but on
the weekends they’re headed back to their homeplace. I believe the story this
song tells can relate to a lot of the people who’ve had to move and look
elsewhere for work in order to support their family.

Lamitschka:  What kind of songs do you like to record the
most?

Answer:  The old time Gospel songs would be my most
favorite since I grew up with that type of music as well.

Lamitschka:  How much creative control do you have over
your music?

Answer:  I have a good bit however I also have a great
team as well so I really enjoy looking to them and learning everything I can
from them especially since I’m doing traditional country and they have the most
knowledge of this type of music. I really enjoy taking the back seat and just
watching and learning from the best in the business.

Lamitschka:  What hopes and desires do you have?

Answer:  Just to be able to keep going and growing in
this business and make an honest living doing it is the biggest desire I have.

Lamitschka:  Many music fans today get their information
about artists online. Do you have your own website and what will fans find
there?

Answer:  We do yes! The website is Joe Hott.com. We
have everything from music to videos, photos, show dates and much more! My
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram is @joehottmusic and
there is a lot of information on there too.
