Interview with Rachael Johnson

Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show

Lamitschka:  Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?
Rachael JohnsonAs a child, I was raised listening to my mother’s favorite traditional country songs and my father’s most adored classic rock hits, which I have incorporated in both my shows and my writing.  With influences ranging from Merle Haggard, Miranda Lambert, Janis Joplin, Eagles and Beatles, new listeners and viewers are sure to enjoy a never seen before, unforgettable performance.
Lamitschka:  How was the last year for you? What were your highlights?
Rachael Johnson: 2011 was a very exciting year for me.  During this past year, my band was named the house band at the world famous, Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, TN.  I also was able to perform at Eddie Montgomery’s Steakhouse in Kentucky, tour as far North as Michigan, open for Little Texas in Alabama, visit and perform in my home state, North Carolina, and am on the calendar to perform at the one year anniversay of the Lyrics for Lyric benefit for the Lyric Frizzell Foundation, which is in place to help find a cure for childhood cancer. I have been so blessed this past year and look forward to what the future holds.
Lamitschka:  How did you choose the title for the CD?  Is there a story behind the name?
Rachael JohnsonMy CD is titled “There and Now”.  This is also the title of the first track on the album.  I wrote the song with my family just after moving to Nashville and it depicts the way of life in my hometown.  I am originally from Wilkes County, North Carolina and take pride in calling the original “Mayberry”, home of the world famous Andy Griffith Show, my home.
Lamitschka:  Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for your CD?
Rachael JohnsonYes.  I am a songwriter in addition to a singer/performer.  I enjoy writing my own material but am not opposed to singing others’ songs.  I am great friends with many writers here in Nashville who have songs that I sing in my own shows.
Lamitschka:  What drives you?
Rachael JohnsonI have many things in my life that drive me in my music including my family, my writing, my shows and MY FANS!!
Lamitschka:  When you get time off, how do you like to relax?
Rachael JohnsonI have always been very family oriented and enjoy spending time with my family in my time off.  I was so blessed to have my family move to Nashville three years ago with me and love spending every open moment with all of them!
Lamitschka:  Is there any place you haven’t played that you would like to?
Rachael JohnsonI would definitely love to tour Germany, and Europe in general.  I want to touch as many lives as possible with my music and, ultimately, I would love to play world-wide!
Lamitschka:  What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?
Rachael Johnson: I perform both an intimate acoustic show and an electrifying full band show. Both shows include country, rock, blues and original music so everyone in the crowd leaves happy with an amazing entertainment experience!
Lamitschka:  Many music fans today get their information about artists online. Do you have your own website and what will fans find there?
Rachael JohnsonFans can find my website at www.rachaeljohnson.com.  Here they can explore my biography, tour dates, photographs/videos, merchandise and much more!
