Interview with BOB WAYNE

CMNI  has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing
about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the
music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you?
WAYNE:  if you like banjos and fiddles and a rowdy hillbilly
type style with a punk edge.. Come hang with us!!!
How was the last year for you? What were your highlights?
WAYNE:  last year was really busy…actually the last 7 years
have been very busy! I have put out 6 records in 7 years, been to
Europe 13 times, toured America about 40 times, and even made it to
Canada and Brazil!!! I would say the highlights would be just getting
to see the world and meet all the good people of the world who like
To have a damn good time!!
How did you choose the title for your latest CD “Till The Wheels
Fall Off”?  Is there a story behind the name?
WAYNE:  I was at a party in Alabama after a show and everyone
was taking LSD and drinking moonshine, there were naked girls jumping
on a trampoline, and I was sitting with a 70 year old man with no
teeth who was just putting a hit of LSD in his mouth and I said “man,
I can’t believe your still partying at your your age… That’s
amazing” and he said “I’ll be doing this shit till the
wheels fall off this mother fucker” it was great, I ran to the
van and grabbed my guitar and sat and watched the party and wrote the
You did a duet with ___HANK 3____. How did that happen to come about?
WAYNE:  I used to work for Hank 3 years ago and we became
friends. He is someone I really look up to with his work ethic and
diverse songwriting….his last album he played drums, mixed,
recorded, sang, recorded all the other instruments, wrote the songs,
sang the songs, and the list goes on hahahaha… He’s crazy … But
anyways,,, we became friends and I asked him to sing a song with me
on my record, so he came over and nailed it in about 15 minutes. I’m
really happy with how it sounds. And it’s definitely an honor to have
him on my CD.
What do you think about today’s music scene versus its post and where
do you see it going in the future?
WAYNE:  that’s a tough one. Hmmmm, well, there’s lots of music
out there and a lot of different scenes, it seems like we kind of
cross over into a weird blend of punk fans, old school country fans,
and metal fans… And I think all three of those scenes will never
What has been your greatest challenge in music business?
WAYNE: well, I’m pretty much a road dog. But it’s hard to keep on the
road without a booking agent and doing a lot of things yourself. But
it seems that if you don’t do things yourself you will be just stuck
at home. So I’ve had to work really hard to book shows and find towns
and fans that want to see us, in Europe we have a booking agent who
has really helped us, but yeah, is say just trying to stay on the
road and keep band members.
Many European fans travel to the United States to attend the several
of the music festivals for the opportunity to see so many of their
favorite artists, bands and celebrities. Will you be participating
and how will the fans be able to find you?
WAYNE:  Yes!!! Muddy roots in Tennessee is my favorite !!! It’s
a 3 day camp out and we are playing with my hero Red Simpson this
When you’re on tour, do you have time to play tourist?
WAYNE:  unfortunately no…. It’s haulin’ ass, and I am the
driver and also the tour manager so I’m very busy day to day.
What’s the best compliment a fan has ever given you?
WAYNE:  well, just when they tell me a certain song really hits
home for them it means alot… That they can relate…. That’s
Fans are always hungry for good road stories. Do you have one you can
share with us (come on don’t be shy)?
WAYNE:  let’s see, well besides waking up to a hog pissing in
the kitchen in Idaho, our bass player woke up from a black out with
our guitar player’s face tattooed on his leg hahaha! Many more
stories to come hahahaha we post the good stuff on Facebook too
throughout the tours so if you wanna follow along on our journey hit
us up!
