Interview ELIS NOA (Elisa Godino, Aaron Hader, Angel Vassilev) by Christian Lamitschka for Country Music News International Magazine & Radio Show
1. Music has many new fans throughout Europe who may be hearing about you for
the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to
someone who has never seen or heard you?
We are one woman and two men who found themselves through their love for
music. We studied and experimented together, we worked and produced two Eps
(„High“ 2017) and („Love Letter“ 2019 that really mirror our musical
development throughout the years. Our music has often be defined as electronic
pop, but it also has glimpses of jazz, soul and trip hop. Since we work collectively
during the production process as well as on our live set, seeing us can be a very
energetic and passionate experience.
2. How was the last year for you? What were your highlights?
The most outstanding moments would definitely be the releases of the two
singles „ Love Letter“ and „Good Boy“. Beyond that, there is no better feeling
when doing a concert and you are able to totally emerge into the moment. We
definitely had some of those moments during the last tour. This last year was
quiet intensive, we spend most of the time songwriting, producing and preparing
for the live shows. Even though we sometimes went beyond our limits during
the process, it´s beautiful to see the results of the work now.
3. What is your latest CD and how’s it doing?
Our last work is our second EP called „Love Letters“ (Las Vegas Records) that was
released on the 3rd of May. Its actually doing quiet well, we are thrilled to see it
being played on numerous radio stations like FM4, bytefm, RaiSüdtirol and others.
The most exciting feeling is when you see the live audience enjoying the new
songs during concerts, maybe singine along, that´s clearly one of the best parts.
4. How did you choose the title for the CD? Is there a story behind the name?
All four songs on the EP are love dedications. The EP wanders through stages of
Love in four acts: devotion (1 Love Letter), desire (2 Into You), frustration (3
Good Boy) and extasy (4 Rush). It felt like „Love Letters“ was the best fit to
describe best all songs.
5. Do you write the songs yourself? If not, how do you go about finding the songs for
your CD?
We write and produce all songs, each on of us has a very clear vision on how we
want the songs to sound. While producing this EP, we worked together with Marco
Kleebauer, who Co- produced the EP. We very much enjoyed collaborating with
him, since he has a superb taste and a great ability to understand the essence of
the music and the intentions that we three had while composing the songs and
finding the right sound esthetics.
6. What is the difference between your last CD and your current one?
The first EP might sound more experimental and jazzy to some listeners. Both EPs
mirror very well the musical spaces that we liked to wander in while writing and
producing. This EP is more minimalistic and pure. We also love to observe
ourselves on how we grow and develop musicly, it´s very interesting to see.
7. As an artist, you do so many tasks such as recording, touring, interviews. What do
you like best, what’s your favorite activity?
Elisa: If I could choose between all the things that come to working in a band, I
would definitely choose the beginnings of the songwriting process and the
moment I get to record in the studio. The are both so connected to each other.
Between both phases you really have to have a look on your inside. The first
chords and words come from a momentary, deep feeling that finds it´s new
structure in the form of music. Then, while focussing on the production and
overall composition and details, this rudimental feeling to the song vanishes a bit.
In the moment of recording, I have to channel that feeling again.
8. When you get time off, how do you like to relax?
On our free time, we love to spend time with our family and friends. Some of us
focus on reading books, watching movies as well as having long conversations and
meditatation to get inspiration and to fuel our creativity.
9. When you’re on tour, do you have time to play tourist?
Unfortunately, while on tour we spend so much time travelling from one venue to
the next. But we always make sure to find time to get to know the people we
collaborate with and the ones who come to the concerts.
10.What do you think about today’s music scene versus its past and where do you see
it going in the future?
We have witnessed a beautiful and rapid development in the austrian music scene
in that last couple of years and are thrilled to see it growing. We are absolutely
delighted to see more and more artists releasing their works of art and heart and
foresee a more varied and colorful music scene coming towards us.
