Dolly Parton Announces “Pure & Simple” Tour + New Album

Dolly Parton Announces “Pure & Simple” Tour + New Album
For the first time in 25 years, fans of Dolly
Parton in the United States and Canada will have their favorite
Backwoods Barbie touring across the North American nations, coming to a
town near them.
It was announced during a well attended press
conference in Nashville on March 7, 2016 that the country music icon
will do a follow up on her huge success, the movie “Coat Of Many
Colors”, with a double CD titled “Pure & Simple with Dolly’s
Biggest Hits”, along with the most extensive tour she’s been on for a
quarter of a century.  The title is referring to the downscaled
arrangements of the music and the setting on stage will be “without the
fireworks and all that”.  In her own usual, jovial
Dolly manner, she  is describing the choice of moving to a more
intimate and acoustic show as kind of a way to “go back in time”, and to
give people a taste of what her family upbringing and music sounded
like.  As she says:  “The movie ‘Coat Of May Colors’
is really more about family than about me”, and she continues that she
misses those types of programs on TV herself.  When she is describing
her new projects, she is using the word excited extensively, and you can
tell she really is.
Despite of, or rather in addition to her glamorous
outside, Dolly is much more than an artist and an image and that is
displayed with hard-to-hold-back-tears when the recent passing of Joey
Feek is mentioned.  She is sincerely choked up
talking about how special Joey was.  And Dolly shows her affectionate
and sentimental side and love for her family while talking about how
hard it was for her to sing “Coat Of Many Colors” for many years after
the passing of Dolly’s mother.  After all, it
is so much more than a song: it is an actual event and an act of love
and a gift from a mother to a child.  Speaking of family events, the
Dolly owned theme park Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee has some new
attractions this year:  one of them is the world’s
not only fastest, but the world’s first launching wooden roller coaster
and it has been named Lightening Rod.  Most appropriately, its riding
cars are designed to look as hot rods from the 1950s. The new attraction
has a top speed of 73 mph (117 km/h).  And
just like her park and roller coaster, Dolly is always on full
throttle:  in addition to working on her new “Pure & Simple” album, a
tour, her theme park and Imagination Library (a charity giving the gift
of story books to children), she is already planning
a Christmas TV show as well.  Dolly readily proclaimed that she is
never going to retire. She celebrated her 70th birthday in
January and Is having a 50 year Anniversary wedding vow renewal in May,
but what reveals her “real age” (is there such
a thing?) is the title of one of the new songs on her upcoming  CD:
“I’m 16”. And … aren’t we all?
The double album’s track listing and details will
be announced later, but it will include her biggest hits along with some
newly written material.  Dollywood opens on March 19 and the movie
“Coat Of Many Colors” is going to be released
on DVD May 3, just in time for Mother’s Day.
