Dierks Bentley Celebrates “Somewhere on a
Beach”
Among many aspects that make the Nashville
music scene unique is the traditional No. 1 party. Generally, when a single
hits that coveted No. 1 mark, the record label, song publishers and other
entities come together to throw a bash for the artist and writers, which we’re
told simply doesn’t happen in other music centers.
Wednesday afternoon, July 20, Dierks
Bentley, a veteran of such parties, celebrated his 14th chart-topper,
“Somewhere on a Beach,” at the South restaurant/bar in the heart of Nashville’s
famed Music Row. Dierks was joined by the tune’s producer Ross Copperman and
the five writers: Jaron Boyer, Dave Kuncio, Josh Mirenda, Michael Tyler and
Alexander Palmer. They guys received plaques from their publishers and
performing rights organizations along with various other items.
Prior to the party, Dierks met with members
of the Nashville media to talk about the song and upcoming projects. Dierks
noted that he was attracted to “Somewhere on a Beach” immediately upon first
listen. “There was some kind of intangible quality about that song,” Dierks
said. “I thought the demo was great.” He added that the song’s somewhat complex
melody added to its appeal, though it made it “challenging” for him to deliver.
There’s more coming from Dierks, including
his current single “Different for Girls,” featuring guest vocalist Elle King,
and the continuation of his 2016 Somewhere on a Beach Tour. For those planning
a trek to Nashville soon, you can tour Dierks’ exhibit at the Country Music
Hall of Fame and Museum, Dierks Bentley: Every Mile a Memory, which runs
through Sept. 6. “It’s such an honor to have your stuff in that building,”
Dierks told the assembled media. “It’s cool.”
As far as “Somewhere on a Beach,” the
single proved to be the fastest-rising of Dierks’ successful career and spent
four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. “I can’t imagine
my career without this song,” Dierks said.
