country music singer, songwriter, producer and now author, David
Frizzell has garnered rave reviews and industry accolades for his book
on the life of his beloved brother and mentor, Lefty Frizzell.
“I
Love You A Thousand Ways: The Lefty Frizzell Story,” was released in
late 2011 and was quickly named one of the Top Music Books of the Year
by CMT (Country Music Television). The biographical story about the man
whose life and unique, relaxed singing style influenced generations of
singers has recently been nominated for the Award for Excellence in
Recorded Sound Research by the Association for Recorded Sound
Collections (ARSC).
The
ARSC awards are presented to authors and publishers of books, articles,
liner notes, and monographs, to recognize outstanding published
research in the field of recorded sound.
The
long-awaited book features a forward by Merle Haggard and chronicles
the turbulent life and career of Lefty Frizzell; one of America’s most
influential voices. It is a must read for avid country music fans and
historians. The book is now available in audio version wherever books
are sold, narrated by the author and including selections from Lefty’s
own music.
“This
is my year of giving back,” Frizzell says. “I’ve wanted to honor Lefty
for a long time and writing the book was a painful but loving process.”
Still
touring and performing at 70. Frizzell has launched an awareness
campaign for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (madd) with his latest
single, “Say Hello To Heaven.” Written by Buddy Hyatt (of the band
Toto), the poignant ballad shares the heart wrenching story of a wife
and mother lost to her family at the hands of a drunk driver. Sadly, it
is a story the Frizzell family knows well. David’s own niece was killed
by a drunk driver in 1998.
The
song is part of a year-long awareness campaign in support of Mothers
Against Drunk Driving (madd), an organization that was on the scene and
of tremendous support to the Frizzell family in the days and weeks after
their loss. “Say Hello To Heaven” is part of Frizzell’s touring show
and David has made appearances alongside Jan Withers, National President
of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
“It’s
all part of giving back,” Frizzell says. “I could never repay madd for
the help and care when we lost my niece, but when I heard this song, I
knew it may be the perfect way to shine a light on the tragedies that
come from drunk driving.”
