Concert Review: Priscilla Block – Welcome To The Block Party Tour

By Madison Monroe for Country Music News International Magazine

Priscilla Block kicked ass in Columbus, Oh. Block just wrapped up the last leg of her first headlining tour. She put on one hell of a show at The Bluestone, also known as “The Other Church of Country Music.” Every little detail was amazing from the opening act down to the energy from the fans. Country music newcomer, Dalton Dover, opened the show. Dalton was on the TV show The Voice. Dalton is a small-town GA boy who just had a song blow up on Tik Tok. He blew me away with his amazing vocal range. Dalton set the crowd on fire when he played a David Allen Coe Hit.

The second Block steps out on the stage, she brings a whirlwind of confidence. This is from the time she opens the show until she closes the show. Block opens the show with” Welcome To The Block Party”. The opening of the set makes you feel the anticipation and unmatched energy from the crowd. “Welcome To The Block Party” is also a great way for Block to gauge the crowds’ energy so she can match it.

Country music fans are some of the most dedicated fans I know. It was freezing, windy, and snowing on this Friday  January 13th . I was talking to fans who told me they showed up six hours before doors. There were also groups with umbrellas and blankets drinking beer. I saw girls that were celebrating birthdays with Priscilla and fans with unique gifts for her.  The audience that Block draws is one that drives the idea of coming together. The bottom line is we all braved the cold for Priscilla.

During the show, The Block Party Band created a welcoming environment. This is very powerful to experience as a die-hard country music fan. Priscilla wants all of her fans to feel the whirlwind of confidence that she does, This is why “Thick Thighs” stuck out to me in her set. The song sends a message of self-love and acceptance and she goes against the grain of society. She is very honest and true to herself.

Body image is a tough subject for everyone. “Thick Thighs”, “Peaked In High School” and “I’ve Gotten Good” all go to show that Priscilla is an amazing role model for all fans. She is an amazing role model because as a society we get judged on everything we do. The positive message she is sending is showing fans that it is ok to be yourself.

It was truly an amazing experience. I wish every performer brought The Block Party Band energy. If you’re a country music fan, Priscilla Block’s shows are a must-see!
