Codee-Lee takes the Show On The Road with her new single
By Alan Shipston for Country Music News International Magazine
Show On The Road was written in the thick of motherhood by Australian country singer, Codee-Lee and just released as her brand new single. After wearing many hats with bills to pay, Codee has written a song to show her son that deadlines bring an honesty to life as she tries to keep the show on the road. Her example is to tell him that he can be anything he wants, in spite of all the living adversities. An interesting guitar / banjo hook starts this mid-tempo song and soon enough Lee’s vocals command your attention as she easily sings,
Toy cars on the kitchen floor
Fingerprints on the sliding door
Little feet running after me
A lot of love within these walls
I’m trying to do it all
When did my dreams start chasing me
Steel guitar swirls through the verses as the rhythm section continues to drive forward with a momentum that matches the world-weary lyric. A baritone style guitar solo opens up the arrangement leading into a vocal breakdown of the chorus, allowing Lee’s vocal to shine through. Codee-Lee had this to offer regarding her single, “Sleepless nights, big expectations, and the constant pull to be everything at once. This song is the breath I needed as a reminder that I’m a creator, an artist and it’s for anyone trying to hold it all together and keep a piece of themselves alive.”
That dedication has earned Codee-Lee major recognition, including a Top 50 run on The Voice, 20 WA Country Music Awards and 3 WAM Song of the Year Awards. With 200,000+ streams, a growing national audience and a catalogue that includes 4 EPs and 10 singles, she continues to prove she’s more than a consummate performer. Whether she’s lighting up the room with a crowd-singing chorus or stripping it back to voice and guitar, Codee-Lee brings people in close and reminds them why they fell in love with country music in the first place.
