Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project Fundraiser

Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project
Fundraiser

Charlie Daniels has much to celebrate this
year. The legendary entertainer, who turns 80 this October, was recently named
as one of the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame, and he’ll be
officially enshrined later in the year. His Million Mile Reflections exhibit
opens Sept. 23 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Plus,
his annual Volunteer Jam concert will return to Nashville in November.
On the night of Sept. 13, Charlie’s
attention was turned to an event that remains close to his heart, his annual
fundraising event at the Palm restaurant in Nashville for the Journey Home
Project. Journey Home, which Charlie helped start, creates awareness and offers
financial assistance to military veterans returning to the States. Charlie’s
annual event honors the men and women who serve in the U.S military and raises
funds from ticket purchases to the gala evening as well as silent and verbal
auctions. At the auctions, attendees can bid on everything from a tribute rifle
to a trip to the CMA Awards and handwritten lyrics to Charlie’s song “Night
Hawk,” the title track to his latest album.

“It just seems to get bigger every year,”
Charlie tells us. “We have so many people who want to help.” Charlie adds that
raising money is the primary goal but that raising awareness is equally
important. “You want to raise money but at the same time, you want people to
know exactly where that money is going and what it helps support. I think as
people become more aware of what you’re doing, they want to support it. I have
always said that we can never do enough for the people in our military.”
The Journey Home Project partners with
other organizations to help veterans with educational and medical assistance as
well as financial aid. “This is something that is needed,” Charlie says. “I
hope people will continue to support us.”
